Here's what I worked on today. I had a bunch of this para-cord rope lying around and my steering wheel felt bare to me so I put the two together. Feels pretty good. Probably not as nice as a wheelskin cover but it can be practical and used if you're ever in a situation in need of rope I guess.

It's just leather. They let me pick out the hide bc I was there but they all looked the same. I though it might be too thin without another layer but it feels about right. I realized if I doubled the layer it would look ridiculous on that large wheel.

I'm not sure size differences but I can check the 1976 wheel in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks... I've got a 74, but it's wheel came out of the 77 Fj45 I parted out, so your 76 wheel would be the same as mine.

The only thing I'd worry about with the cord is what it'd do to your hands if the wheel hit something while wheeling... Can you say, "Rope Burn"? For the same reason you should never put your thumbs in the wheel while wheeling.

@74HogGuy What seats are those? I've seen them here and there but never found out what bran seats they were. I like the look and sounds like the feel is pretty nice as well.

@airon23 - they are the Procar Rally 1000s.

Cleaned up Warn manual and the hubs themselves; now to pick out a grease and re-assembly!

Was a beautiful night for a drive, so I decided to do a "formal" fuel economy test on the FJ40. I filled up at my local gas station, drove a round-trip 30mi by GPS (32 by odometer, 31in tires). Then filled it up again.

At its current trim, the 283 delivered 14mpg. I'd say this drive was about 95% highway at 55-60mph. Tried to stay out of the quad's big secondaries as best I could.

I'm actually pretty impressed, I thought I was doing way worse on fuel economy!

I guess this just means I'll have to drive it more often!

Last week end did some stump pulling.
Cut down an old hedge and left the stumps high so I could get a chain around them and pull them out.
No problems.
Drilled a hole through and put a long bolt through some of them to stop chain slipping.

Unless that is an optical illusion, nice use of what looks like a Battleship's anchor chain. :hillbilly:

@Jdc1 at least your bezel's not upside down.

We pulled this off the trailer and stuck it in the barn and did not touch it since summer of 14. When does the term barn find come into the equation to add $15k to its value? Does it matter if it's a pole barn and not a real barn? It smells the same.

Is that last pic looking east/northeast towards the Wallowa's and the Eagle Cap Wilderness? Beautiful country. It's been quite a few years since I've been able to spend a few days in that area, mostly Joseph and Wallowa Lake. I know, tourist trap, but when you are meeting extended family that is not into real camping and really roughing it what can you do?
