I’ve got a spare axle to strip down, a newer 3rd to go in, swap it into the truck with some shims & new spring centre bolts, and then finish assembly with the disc knuckles off my original axle.
When I built my 40 it would be a weekend job… not so much now, almost 30 years later.
Installed these custom tool bag straps made by @pb4ugo. Very nice work.

I’ve got a Costco pack of bounty and extra-large nitrile gloves already. That looks like a lot of work to install… wouldn’t rear disc brakes be easier to install?Installed a 10lb residual valve for the rear drum circuit. It seems the disc/drum 80 MC needs it when running it on an early 40 rear drum setup. Solved the double pump braking.

JK… glad it worked out. That’s probably part of the reason my rear drums were so fussy about adjustment. I’m sure the old residual valves were not very effective. I did run the front 10 lb valve for a couple years before I learned that it shouldn’t be there (and those pads lasted 95k miles).

Yeah it keeps a 10lb pressure in the rear line. The issue was the beefy springs on the rear drums were pulling back the pads a lot when I released the pedal. So I would have to pump the pedal twice to push the pistons in the wheel cylinders back out enough to apply real braking force. This way the valve retains some pressure and the pistons don’t retract too far when I release the pedal.what exactly does the 10lb residual valve do Chase ?
is it like a one-way door that when it closes that retains the DOT 3 fluid pressure / or the fluid itself from escaping , so when you apply the brake pedal again , it creates a instant force applied pressure to the 8 wheel cylinder pistons on the axle ?
What did you fix/fill the cracks with? Looks great BTW!Fix the cracks in my steering wheel.

I have the original rubber floor mat. It has a couple cracks and a hole where your heel sits, but I have a plan to fix all that.I'd love to hear some feedback on this once you've got some miles on it. Assuming you're putting something over it, what are your plans?

I am not planning to put the sound deadner in the back, although I am sure it would help. I will cut something like this and put it on the back floor.

Yes, I agree... I am not going to do the rear wheel wells, but I will do the inside of the doors.I put a layer of this below the rubber mat in the back. It did help reduce road noise, but unless you are willing to cover the rear wheel wells, you are always going to have some pretty significant road noise…
