Agree. I wasn’t that impressed with the Retrosound either. Sometimes mine won’t come on. May be a wiring issue though…

Mine had the same intermittent power issue (sometimes would not come on, other times it would just turn off unexpectedly). I contacted Retro and they said I most likely had a grounding issue. I added a dedicated ground wire and it solved the problem.

Like others, I like the “retro” look of the radio, the Bluetooth capability, and the sound is decent (I did not add the optional amp) but that said it’s features are not very user friendly to access. I’ve learned to just leave it set on Bluetooth and the only thing I touch on the radio is the volume knob.

Where did you source the tie downs bolted to the floor?

Took care of little things like dialing in a straight steering wheel after the PS rebuild, timing and carb adjustment and a quick bath to start the week right.

Yes, I 100% agree about the Retrosound in-dash unit. It is very cheaply made. I bought one a couple years ago and was very disappointed with the initial quality and after about six months it just quit working. I definitely would NOT recommend it.

I am planning to buy one of these and figure out a way to mount it to the roll bar. That way I can remove it and not have to worry about someone stealing it. I will just use Bluetooth and Spotify.

Amazon product ASIN B07ZWCTNJH

Tossed in some new spark plugs and went for a test drive. Sun was getting low and it really is too cold for a bikini top here so I had to be quick getting this image.

Gotta decide whether to rewind the steel cable or seriously consider synthetic option.

Mounted Sanden a/c compressor via Vintage Air bracket and started to eat the elephant as one does. Added gr starter,(Amazon unit mentioned in another thread Premier Gear PG-16828), money well spent.
Clardy refresh done.

That ac unit fits with the stock heater?

Yes sir, only remove the top vent cover below radio slot.

One more step toward disc brakes on the '73. Last weekend I tried to separate the coarse spline birfs from the axles using the pipe technique. Did not work. This afternoon I set up the Trail Vise in the receiver of the 60 and went to work on the birfs with a brass drift and hammer. No progress using the brass so I went at them with the hammer. Cage in one birf died, second separated more easily.

I haven't looked at FJ40 diagrams but for some reason this 1981 BJ44 came from the factory with a front axle breather right on top of the axle housing, whereas the rear axle has a breather hose extending up to the frame. Why should the rear of the vehicle handle a deeper water crossing than the front? Nonsense. Parts 43209-60011 and 90404-10019 from a 60 series bolted right on and shared the existing bolt with the brake line bracket. Note that some of the older 40 series might have coarser threads on the axle for the breather, from what I've read.

Aside from a little driving on Friday, I used it today to winch the camry onto a trailer this evening.

Hopefully I can get it to a salvage yard on Monday.
