Jim I'm swamped Sat. but I don't have any definitive plans on Sunday or Monday. Call me if you need something or if you want to take it out for a test spin.

Getting some last minute stuff ordered on the interwebs before heading to a few local stores to pick up a few needed items then I should be able to start hanging the doors today.

If everything goes as planned I should be putting some miles on it this weekend and you are welcome to come out and go for a joyride.

Jim, what's the brand of the blue paint?

Can one of you guys tell what the secret is to installing the 1/4 window rubber on the rear door?

Chinchilla dander or ground unicorn horn dust? Sorry all I have is hearsay, conjecture and lies...

Is that the same as hookers good deeds and whiskey?

If that will help installing the 1/4 window rubber on the rear doors I might have a fighting chance, if not I still need some help.

Yes, much the same... You have a fighting chance!

Well as it turns out, you my friend are a genius, so I poured myself a tall glass of fine Kentucky whiskey and headed out to the shop to take a second look and in five minutes both ¼ windows are installed.

J Mack,

Question on those Line Locks... Does the Line Lock control all four brakes or just the rear? Could you plumb in two Line Locks, in order to lock all four brakes?

J Mack, were your hands steady enough to take any pictures of that 5 minute install? I tried everything, except for a stiff drink, to get those 1/4 window rubbers installed. Easily took me over 2 hours using cargo straps, soapy water, and whatever else I could think of to hold things in place. I still don't like the finished results.

Sorry to say, but all I did was write out the check. Had him cut all new glass and let him put them all in. Having the right attitude ( stiff drink ) going in, works wonders! :)

Ron,

I’m only controlling the rear, not sure why you would want the front but yes you would need two valves. FYI: I lock mine on for two weeks and it held well enough to stall the engine when I tried to move it.

Straight soap no water and use a small paint brush to paint it into the channels on the rubber and door frame, insert the window into the rubber, insert the window and rubber together into the door opening and slide back ( don’t worry if the rubber slips into the door track, just keep the glass in the rubber), get the inside rubber set first and keep the outside rolled out of the track all the way around, only after the inside “completely set” roll the outer rubber lip into the channel.

If you try to set the inner and outer at the same time you will make up new curse words and join me in hell for the words I created.

Thanks Jim. Did you use a custom color or does that stuff only come in a limited number of colors?

Dave,

The link I posted is for tintable base, the primer for this paint also kicks butt!

Last paint related question. Did you spray it with an HVLP gun? Tip size?

I used a pressure pot set at 25 PSI so I could keep the viscosity high on the paint (6:1:1), I was going for maximum film build but if you wanted to do multiple coats or have the pant lay down a little flatter you could certainly thin it more and spry it with any standard spray gun.

FYI: I used two and a half activated/reduced gallons of paint on the pig

Thanks Jim!

Installed my tailgate last night and ran into some issues on top of the normal joy of mounting the tailgate that I thought I would pass along for the next guy.

My body is a 1976 and I’m using an early tailgate from a 1968/1969 and it appears that the recess for the hinges changed at some point between and when using the early tailgate with the shallow recess on a late body the hinge hits the torsion bar before the tailgate closes all the way.

Mounting and unmounting a painted tailgate several times by yourself to modify these recesses is exactly as much fun as it sounds.

Well I have an update, first the good news,

I was able to adjust the windshield squirter to hit exactly were I wanted..

Now the bad news, I was out for a test drive and apparently the new gears are not as impressed with the boost as I was..
