Here’s my contribution to this thread. Simple drawer, no slides. I hit all the edges with a router to round them out then painted or wrapped carpet over it. Still working on my slide for the fridge at the moment.

Now you just need some nice cargo window gull wings to make Fridge accessibility complete! Been trying to get WagonGear to make some for quite a while now.
That would be awesome! I’m gonna add a set of sliders for my fridge, should pull out all the way
 
How does the drawer pull out with it fully loaded?

Having built and used this type of drawer system many many times with decades of use for heavy construction tools it was never a issue to pull them open.
I prefer the non slider drawer as it well stay put in any spot that you open it. with the fancy sliders if you not on flat ground the drawer wants to come sliding out on you and only stops when it's in the fully open position. JMHO ;)
 
I‘ve had the same experiences as Broski. The one time I did do a fancy drawer system using small rubber casters, on any slope it would come crawling out unnecessarily(sometimes like a devil).

Camping gear does not weight that much. There is no need to have 100lb drawer glides (Waste of valuable inches). Even 3/4 ply might be over kill for drawer boxes. Build the main case out of 3/4 ACX or cabinet grade ply wood. Find a local cabinet maker to fabricate 2 drawer boxes, instead of one wide one, to the sizes you need with dove tailed corners using quality drawer stock (use Brie wax as a finish) and you’ll have drawers that operate smoothly and last indefinitely. They’ll stay in place how every far you pull them out (unless your on some crazy slope).

Look at the platform in the back of the suburban..Its 1” plywood on casters and carried many 100s of pounds of equipment. It rolled out to easily. Not good on a slope It was tetherd so that it would not accidentally end up on the ground.

I have that same compressor stored somewhere? A guy gave it to me. I knew why the first time I used it, loud as hell!

I found the '97 80 Series above perusing for sale ads on haraj.com. I assume it's for sale as shown. Not sure though.
 
All right, I'll bite and contribute here.

I'll forgive you all for not knowing, but I'm an engineer at DECKED. Yep! And here's something I've always prided myself on as a designer: I'm the first to throw big rocks at my own ideas. No need to fool one's self. So, speaking candidly...

The drawer system is most definitely a sub-optimal use of space if plopped into an SUV-type-thing. In fact it's not an exhaustive use of space in a truck bed, but it does raise the truck bed's load floor enough to clear the wheel wells (allowing carry of wider items than before) AND it trains the user into living a more neat/clean/tidy/organized lifestyle. It could do a better job of utilizing space, but my predecessor (he's since retired) was trying to fit as many truck SKU's as possible with as few tools (molds) as possible. Sort of like teaching to the lowest common denominator, kind of thing, you end up sacrificing space on some models. You can't imagine the variety of truck bed geometry and wheel well placement on trucks spanning the last 20-years.

I've been working to retrofit a DECKED system into my cruisers, and very much appreciate the input from you MUDsters. Similar to @Gordobe and @Voodoocruisers , I've found utmost value in keeping space to the left- and right-hand side of the main drawer so I can jam items in there. The DECKED system itself is way overbuilt for an SUV's cargo area - there are longitudinal steel tubes over-molded into the resin to let you stack 2000 pounds atop the system. Neat feature but maybe not necessary in the back of a 55 (or 62/80/100). The steel tubes do, however, give fantastic anchor points for mounting things atop the panels (e.g. drawer slides, L-tracks).

This is my latest incarnation - it is built around a 'service body' DECKED system which touts two full-width drawers and says goodbye to the "ammo cans" on each side. As a result you get a system that minimizes wasted space. For this version, I cut it down in length by ~24" so I could still use the rear seat in my 62. TBD on whether or not this is useful - you certainly get a raised load floor and waterproof storage compartments, but I'm unsure if the drawers are capacious enough to be of value.

Some pics posted here to get you thinking and light up some feedback. Not shown are some molle panels I've since installed to the side areas to improve usability and to keep items from getting lost under the drawers. Cheers!
