Here's an old picture showing how much the 5 speed shifter is bent over...

You're going to have a fitment problem with the PTO linkage and exhaust right around that mount area. You might have to make your own mount in order to make room.

Gratitude Ron!

My immediate plans are to use the propeller style mount that hangs off the back of the split case...

I also fully admit it may raise the level of complexity a silly amount to get a PTO unit in there.

Yes and no. It is two pieces with some type of rubber holding them together, sorta. I tried to bend mine with heat and they pulled right apart. Some people have been successful bending cold. I like the look of mine better, more old school shifter than the fat newer style.

Difference in clutch finger style between the three speed and four speeds. I thought the three speeds ran the three-finger clutch styles?
Either way, since you’re not using a 3 speed transmission, it should work as long as it specifies for use with the H55 - bolt pattern, spline count, diameter, etc…
Ah, so probably based on the spline count of the input shaft, eh?
Thanks Rush!

It sounds like the difference is the flywheel - flat vs. the deep-dish.

I read the whole thread finally. Nice Pablo! That was a score finding your rig in Wyo without an engine in that good of condition! My bones are not as good. I see why you chose to keep it in a near factory state. your perseverance paid off! At one point you had it for sale and decided to see it through.

You had so many links in this thread I kept getting side tracked with so many interesting articles here on MUD. I finally started using my bookmarks more often. Should have been doing this all along!

I do have a few questions and observations.

I assume that the 3FE uses the same mounting points on the frame? I didn't see any confirmation either way?

The rear bumper Fabricator link is dead. Is this still available or do you, or someone, have a file could be used to send cut send? I like that simple design! I am a less is more kinda dude.

The radiator mod on the mounting points was genius!!!

Early in the thread you mentioned(page 1) the LCML....wow that brought back some memories. I used to read that email everyday! That's when I had my '79 FJ40. I totally forgot about the LCML. Due to life circumstances I had to sell that 40 and was bitter about it. At that point when I would see a LC I just looked away for a while. I couldn't stay away forever though. When I decided I wanted another LC I found MUD. I feel like somehow MUD replaced LCML.

Your getting ready for the 5 speed. I have one to install as well. I just may start it now. Maybe we can exchange notes.

Thanks for sharing your LC experience.

Been out of town again. I’ll get some pics your way after flight from Houston to Tulsa. Text me any specifics you want from the flying pig and it’s 5 speed install.

Thinking ahead, I am going to need a new parking brake cable and speedo cable.

I know for the parking brake, there is an outfit in CA that everyone seems to like and uses. Do y'all get the speedo cable from them as well?
I guess I'll find out.
Push-Pull is the name I see come up for parking brake cable.

Which one do you have?
3 speed. The dished flywheel.

Is there any reason to convert to 4 speed/flat flywheel and clutch?

You can see some hot spots on the flywheel and the disc looks a little glazed:
