Roof painted to satisfaction. Orange peel at “proper viscosity” better this time than the tangelo peel last time. I’ll give it some time to cure them color sand and buff. Should be bueno.
Scaffold and pressure pot is a good combo for getting really good coverage on the roof, just gotta be careful with all the hoses and keeping the pot upright. This time I used a total of 3.5 quarts. Was done with about 3, but still had some in the pot so went all the way around the perimeter and drip rail a second time.

Nice!!! Getting it done!!!

Nice!!! Getting it done!!!
Thanks! Yeah, somewhat….

Was supposed to launch on the MFS on Wednesday the 16th, but log jams and a huge debris slide near the put in shut down the trip. Originally took two weeks vacation, but decided to cancel the second week and get some more Cruiser work knocked out. Ha! WTF was I thinking? Since the little dove was off also, she decided she wanted to start on our interior remodel project that I’ve been dreading. Very little Cruiser time, and that time is spent in frustration as many parts of this roof paint job still aren’t right and will need some sort of corrective action.

I’ll need to go back to work to get a break😓

On the bright side, the new TIG welder is fantastic and can’t wait to get cranking on those upcoming welding projects 😁

I lied. Sanding the paint back down to primer and trying again.
I’d be extremely optimistic to say maybe done this weekend, but hopefully a good start.
Dude, hopefully you get to your happy place with the next coat, pulling for you!

OCD is a real thing, ask me how I know....
If @RUSH55 is this picky about a panel few will ever see imagine what he’ll be like with the sides and hood! But I understand completely.

If there’s anything this learning curve is teaching me, is that when it comes to body and paint work, there’s no such thing as being TOO OCD.

How about - if the job turned out so bad that RUSH would do it a third time, it must be pretty bad!(?)

You can do it BUDDY 😘

Thank you brethren! Onward!

Biggest issue is this “micro porosity”, or solvent-pop, in many places. There’s also tons of fish-eyes (which I never really understood the meaning of until now - a pocket of air that looks like a huge zit in the paint and when you sand it down there’s a crater going to the previous layer).
There is also the rookie mistake on my part of running my masking tape to the sharp edge of the drip rail, and when removed, left a seam which peeled down to the steel in several spots.

Lessons learned -
1. Wash panels thoroughly with water and Dawn dish soap
2. Use “wax and grease remover” for final clean (not acetone)
3. Don’t use old paint or old hardener
4. Don’t spray coats too heavy
5. Don’t try to compensate for thick, heavy paint with too much atomizing air pressure
6. Don’t spray too close in order to get proper coverage
7. Use the correct reducer for the application and temperature
8. Spend lots of time test spraying a new gun setup before going to work on the workpiece
9. If in doubt, spray small areas of workpiece and check before continuing to spray entirely
10. Do not tape to a sharp edge
