You should look into the Toyo Open Country R/Ts. Better street performance than M/Ts but still more aggressive than A/Ts. Significantly cheaper as well...

Dude if you 3-link the front that would be so sick. I want to do that eventually so that 35s will look normal. Im guessing frenched chevy springs in the rear?

Well yeah it's new-ish!

Got my new 2" wheel spacers and installed them. Picture just because shiny aluminum.

And got the new pan gasket on, coated the entire thing in a thin layer of Permatex Ultra Grey at the recommendation on my boss at work.

The mechanical fuel pump block-off plate on the 3FE had a plastic spacer with two paper gaskets on each side. That's the Toyota set-up, although with new gaskets and sealant it was leaking bad (my dad installed that one ) so I replaced the spacer with a custom single gasket coated with Ultra-grey both sides.

No leaks so far, keeping an eye on the side cover as well.

Yeah man, keep an eye on that fuel pump block-off. That is how I got my first Pig w/ 3FE. A friend bought it, drove it half-wa across Wyoming and it died. He saw the plate had come loose, and oil all over the side of the block and told the seller he was out. Long story short, it ran out of gas just in time, there was still some oil in the pan.

What t case are you running with the centered rear axle? I forgot.

Right now? i have an 80-82 Split case behind an H41. My rear axle (FZJ80 unaltered) isn't centered EXACTLY, but its damn closer than stock. U-joints can operate on more than one plane of direction as long as the two flanges are flat to each other. Eventually I plan to run a Dana 300 and then long run an Atlas 2.

Installed Trail Gear Super Metal hub studs in my rear axle, I feel a little more comfortable then having the bolts (even if they were 10.9). Easy install thanks to the 6mm hex on the top of studs. Use red Loc-tite on the studs where they thread into the hub. Doing the front next paycheck along with new rotors and rebuilding my TLC Calipers.

Also I installed the Trail Gear spindle/wheel bearing retainer kit, this replaces the two hex nuts and star washer with a reusable set-up, chromoly too. Red Loc-tire on the retaining bolts.

And did I mention I did all this in my school's parking garage?

On the topic of the NV4500 swap -

Old school FJ40 guys know that you can bolt an SM465 right up to an F-Series motor with the use of a 1F 3-speed bellhousing (miraculously they have the exact same transmission front face).

The input shaft and front bearing retainer on the GM NV4500 and SM462 are identical, the only difference is the bolt pattern. What this means is that the 3-speed bellhousing is an excellent place to start.

The NV4500 replaced the SM465 in 1992 and is MUCH more refined and has overdrive, so it's no wonder tons of GM truck owners swap them, all they need is a bellhousing. One man however was to cheap to buy said bellhousing, and did this:

This should work for bolting to a 3-speed bellhousing as that's the same pattern. I was at first skeptical of the ability to get nuts on those studs inside the bellhousing until I had the inspection cover off my truck and saw that it isn't that bad.

So here's my parts list:

-92-95 GM NV4500 transmission
-Toyota 3-speed bellhousing and inspection cover
-10.5" Chevy clutch disc (read a few reports of 11" being just a hair too large)
-Special pilot bearing - PN # 202RRE
-Throwout Bearing Sleeve - 1.5" OD, 1 3/8" ID, ~62 mm long
-80-86 Dana 300 Transfer case
-WFO custom Dana 300 output yoke for Toyota driveshaft (2)
-Toyota pickup slip yoke (2)

And probably a ton of nickel and dime stuff like shifters, boots, hardware, rebuild kits, and a custom crossmember just off the top of my head.

The goal is to have everything rebuilt and clean before I take my rig off the road. I foresee downtime to be one to two weeks at the maximum -
Pull Toyota trans, install everything and test fit crossmember, take measurements for transfer shifter, remove, final weld, build shifters, install, interior modifications, done.

This is going to happen, slowly, but it will.

Why do your calipers need rebuilding? I thought you just put them on not too long ago?

How is the rust holding up?
