Installed some harbor freight d-rings through the floor near the tailgate and through the wheel wells and strapped down all the junk in the trunk. The space in the middle is exactly right for two Craftsman tool drawer sets that I keep in the garage. Almost as if I planned it . I bounced around on some brick roads and nothing moved so I'm happy.

I also soaked some rusty old hardware in vinegar and brought them to bare metal, going to get the Eastwood zinc kit and replace all my new spare hardware and replace everything on the rig.

I also found a cute electric aux fan out of some car (not sure what) at the junk yard so I put it between the grill and AC condenser and wired it up, I can't tell a difference though. Kind of a wimpy fan. Here's a pic but it's from my phone with a damaged camera so kind of hard to tell what's going on, the install is good but it doesn't really help anything. Might pull it out and toss it.

Let me know how that Eastwood zinc kit works out. I am probably going to go the same route.

My cruiser has carried the same black and gray space saver in the trunk for 20 years. It was a pain to explain at border crossings.

Engine swap has to happen eventually.

Just ordered water pump, plugs, mounts, 4 Toyota oil filters (gotta stock up, no longer available), and some other miscellaneous stuff from Cruiser Corps and Rock Auto.

Just realized I forgot to order injectors. Getting the custom ones that have been on eBay for a while.

I'm expecting vehicle downtime because there are a few parts I need to transfer over. Thinking I pull current motor this weekend, anyone want to stop by? Should be fun.

Cleaned and painted more parts today, getting ready for the engine pull, I'm excited.

@cruisermatt how difficult is it to install those d-rings and what is the process? I apologize if it's something simple - I haven't found good instructions on how to do it, and I'm pretty new to the LC world. Thanks in advance for any insight you're willing share on how to complete that mod!

On the wheel wells I just drilled holes through them, I didn't even pull the wheel well covers. Make sure use bolts that aren't too long or they will rub the tires if your suspension flexes all the way to full stuff.

Closer to the tailgate I pulled the chrome strip and lifted the carpet because my drill pulled like 12 inches of thread out of it . Make sure you aren't going to drill through any hoses/lines and make sure you clear the "box" section at the end of the body.

Make sure you use fender (big diameter relative to bolt size) washers under the body to help disperse the load over a little more spread of the body metal.

Keep in mind it's a two person job, one to hold the top of the bolt and one to thread the nut on the bottom. Guess who had to go under the car and get dirt in their face?

Unfortunately the 944 ITS race car #3 piston decided to have a hole in it so now I'm doing this outside oh well.

Got my new injectors, and some other goodies

And all new engine and transmission mounts. All of mine are totally shot, you can see the shifter moving all over the place when I give it some throttle.

Also picked up the engine hoist from the warehouse. I love my rear storage, was able to take everything out to load the hoist in ~5 minutes.

Aaaaaand just broke something on my way home from the last ride on the original motor. Good thing I'm pulling it tomorrow

I suspect I blew the rear main (already shot) out and got oil over the clutch. Will find out tomorrow.

Lesson learned: don't push 3FE over 4000 rpms.

Honestly I'm about to get emotional here, that engine took my family all over and never skipped a beat, I'm like 90% percent sure that I was driven home from the hospital after I was born in my cruiser but I need to confirm with my parents. Kinda cool in a weird way. This motor will live on somewhere, I'm thinking just throw a 2F head on it and put it in an early 40 that has no powertrain.

turns out the engine I pulled from my wifes 62 was a toyota reman, so I have no idea how many miles it pulled from the 350k on the odo. Even tho it isn't the original engine, I still feel like keeping it to RnR for down the road...the head from it will be going onto my rebuilt 2F short block, and into my 55...
