i need this sold by friday because i am moving out of state and can't take it with me. i used my fj as a daily driver this past winter. 4x4 works great, engine is strong, transmission is strong, it is a great base for a project. needs considerable rust repair in the rear, a new driver's floorpan, and rockers. the clutch slave just went out and it is leaking some antifreeze but other than that it is very solid mechanically. check out pictures at Flickr: shotgun_dreams' Photostream

I think it may be time to sell the rig. I have not used it for a few years really. I think it is worth $3500. It has a built 2F Webber 38/38, header, mallory dist, cam, Jacobs, etc. 36/12.5. 15 SX's (5) Full cage Scout steering, spring over, SM420 with 3 spd gears in a 4 spd t-case, CV unlimited Birfs, Woodys fron shaft, 4:88 gears. Welded rear (totally replaceable etc. Lockrite front.
Holley elec fuel pump and a reg. Elec rad fan. Power str. cooler.
I need to fix the cross pin in the front diff.

This is the best / worst day. My family has reciently purchased a 1997 FZJ80 (best day), but this means that something has to go. I am thus letting go of my 71 Fj40 (worst day).
Here are the highlights:
FJ80 powersteering upgrade
NV4500 Transmission, 5 speed with 5.61 fist gear. Less than 1500 on the rebuild.
Orion T-case, 4:1 low gear, new this year less than 1500 miles.
twin stick shifter.
Stock 4.11 gears, aprox 92:1 crawl ratio
Chevy 350, cam and heads less than 1500 miles, rest of the engine less than 10k miles. Currently running an Edelbrock 650 cfm, but also have a quadrajet 750 cmf that i've never run.
Front disc brakes / drum rear.
New bestop.
The rig has no rust.
Also has a clear title...

I hate to do it but i need to sell my 1978 FJ40. I have owned it for 16 years and my father for 5 years before that. I just dont ever drive it anymore and cant bear to see it going to waste in my driveway and would rather someone else have her that has time to restore and enjoy.

I can't believe I'm actually doing this but, unfortunately the time has come for me to give up “The Beast”. The economy hasn’t worked out for me and my wife is due with our first child in April. She calls the FJ “my baby”, so I guess out with one and in with another. This FJ drives like a dream and sounds even better, she is rock solid and the V8 is music to your ears. I cruiser her down the highway at about 70mph with one finger on the steering wheel. The only issue is the Tachometer seems to work intermittantly and I recently had to replace the oil pressure sensor because it was spewing oil all over the back of the engine. That has since been...

Nice FJ40 trail rig for sale. It has a strong 2F with Weber carb, header, GM power steering and altenater. Transmission is an SM420 with 7:1 first gear, stock t-case with twin sticks.
Spring-over axle suspension front and rear with shackle reversal in front. Lockers and disc brakes on both axles. Tires are 37" Boggers with most of the tread remaining on custom beadlocks.
Custom front bumper set up for Warn 8274 with stinger and custom rock sliders (not pictured). Also has 6 point roll cage. Body is in great condition for a trail rig. Hard top and doors included.
I am in need of a DECENT daily driver. I have been driving the FJ40 for about 2 months but the summer heat here in Phoenix is getting to be a bit much.
The truck has the 2f, 4spd transmission and xfer case. Runs excellent, and drives well. NO top or doors. New clutch last week. All and all, a solid, un molested truck. PM me for more pics, questions.

Its on craigslist for to much for the general populous. I'm figuring after I get all the body work done ( repairing the major rust areas) It will be worth 6500ish (shooting high). Its in the 1st stage right now.. of the body resto.... ih8mud discounts :) This is a daily driver. Talking with a few people cruiser heads they say not to go lower than 5500 in its current state... let me know
Everything is good and solid... just want something bigger .... so no I do not want to trade :) I have put ALOT of TLC into this rig and it is mechanically sound and my daily driver for the past month now. Spent 2 months downtime in the garage...
Now considering a trade for older kawasaki or honda cb's, something that would be a good cafe racer platform.
De-rusted and lightly modified with trimmed rocker panels and front fenders, currently has 30000+/- miles on original transmission and transfer case (speedometer stopped working within 100 miles ago).
The truck now has a Ford 302 V8 that was installed when the original owner threw a rod in the original inline 6. The V8 runs but has some low compression and is a little tricky to start, will need some work. Still has original 4 speed trans and transfer case, 2 wheel high works and drives, will not shift into 4 wheel high/low (no cracks in case).
What has been fixed or replaced:
