Pre-03 nav delete how-to

*Update. After really not doing much of anything besides testing wires and fuses again I decided to just to put everything back together for now. So it's basically to where it was after the nav-delete. There is no stereo head unit installed. I then pulled the panel with the illumination switch off because I was just curious about the ignition switch. I know that the seller had swapped out swapped out the ignition cylinder before I purchased it. While I had the panel pulled out, I decided to start it up without looking at that ignition switch. Still no chimes/alerts but some of the gauges came back on. The gear shifter lights are now working, the fuel gauge (though I think it's not reading correctly), oil, and temperature. Oddly though the temperature gauge spikes immediately going straight to high. See attached photo.

I'm so confused at this point.

Tell me why when I tightened the circled screw because it appeared a bit loose everything came back including my chimes and gauges reading correctly…. ?!?!? WTH ?!?!? 🤦‍♂️

Pinched wire? Loose ground?
Literally just tightened the screw on that instrument cluster and Voilà, working. When I was running the mic wire for the head unit I guess had maybe nudged it. Guessing it has to be tightly seated for the connection?!?!

Sorry, running into another question while I'm doing it. I'm on Plug C and noticed the OP put a note for pin 7 (rear heat) that he didn't use it because he had rear A/C. I have a climate controler in my 2002 behind the first row of seats on the drivers side. It looks like you used pin 7 it and connected it to G3. So I'm not sure if I need it or not.

I'm doing this conversion now on my 2002 LX470 with rear heat. I am looking at plug G but spot 3 is empty.

I'm an idiot. I thought the rear heat meant the same as the rear climate control in the LX, but it's not. It's a rear heat for the LC's. Just found some pics of these after looking online.

The bolt circled retains one of the 2 ( left and right side) electrical connectors to the combo meter.

If the bolt was loose, the electrical connector would be loose. Tightening those 2 bottom bolts draws the electrical connectors in for snug connection to the combo meter.

With the combo meter removed, you can see the electrical connectors…

2 options i can think of, hook a coupla things up and test if those work , or find a wiring diagram from japanese version and see what each color is and correlate them to your colors

Looking at it again, not even the empty slots line up. On harness A there should be 6 open pins but on mine there are only 3 so I can't really even test it that way. I guess I'll have to look and see if I can find a Japanese diagram.
I am in the same boat as Ryan 25391. I have a 2002 LX 470 and I purchased the center console from overseas. I have everything hooked up as indicated on the pinout drawings. However, I am having some issues does anyone have a Japanese wiring schematic for the three dial right hand drive controls

When @primeral and TxSunDevil mapped out this Pre-‘03 Nav Delete, they did a really good job. And over the course of time, it has been refined. So much so, that it is a now turn key map of the process that actually works.

If you venture too far off the map, you are in uncharted waters. And beyond the map, there be dragons.

After doing this modification successfully (based on all the lights, working, etc. One thing I notice is that the recirculation button lights up and appears to change to inside and outside, but it doesn't seem that the climate control system actually makes the change. I see no difference between either setting. If the lights work on the button should I assume the wiring and ac amplifier are working correctly and that it's some damper servo or something that's not working?

Where can I find the most up to date documents on this? I see the PDF in the original comment but I cannot access it. Anyone have it on hand?
I didn't know what the heck I was doing when I created and originally shared the document. I have changed the default permission to Commenter. Request if you'd like to edit the document

I'm lost in the water here guys.
2001 UZJ100 Nav w/JBL system.

Nothing works on the AC Control units. Only hazards and center diff lock.
Checked wires + connections 5x times.
I can "rearrange" 2-3 wires but AC wont kick in, and when I try to change the TEMP control knob, I get flashy lights and intermittent lights. My headlamps also turn on and die after I move the knob. Weird.
I didn't grab any wires from underneath the seat. I'm running a new amp wired to each speaker. Getting power / ground / ambient from behind the dash.
When I "rearrange" wires, rear AC kicks in, just blows tho. Fan is working, already tested.

Hmmmmm…

What does “ rearrange 2-3 wires” mean? Does it work when you jiggle the wires within the electrical connectors?

Connector A- terminals 7,8 15 and 16 are for rear AC. When I did mine back in 2021, I noted that I had intermittent rear AC control from the center console panel… I discovered that my A electrical connector body ( that I sourced with pigtails with my non-navigation center console) was allowing a couple of the pins to move inexplicably. If I squeezed the wire harness around the A15 and A 16 wire connector, the rear AC controls would function properly. So I purchased a new A electric electrical connector body from Toyota for $10 and installed it. It solved my problem. But everything else worked on mine.

I don’t know what to say about headlights turning on with the AC knob. ??? Headlights wiring control goes through the headlight switch on the left hand stalk, which controls the headlights relay located elsewhere in the vehicle. Is there an aftermarket car alarm wired to this vehicle?

If we talk through this with a bit more concise description, we may be able to identify the issue…

Is this a new install?
Is the AC computer in your non-navigation center console known to be working well?
Flashing lights indicates an AC computer problem. But need more information to diagnose that.

Is it the rear AC that does not work? Or is it the front AC that does not work? Or both?… was the AC system functioning properly before you installed the navigation delete?

Are you sure that all of your grounds are good?

Hi All,

Thanks to all that have come before me.
Ive read this post from end to end - TWICE.
Ive got everthing in hand or on order to complete this conversion on my '02 LX with ML audio.

One question that I need clarification on:

Will the Metra Harness

Metra 70-8113

enable me to use the ML Amp / speakers?

The OP @primeral said it worked for his but others seem to report problems then end up changing out the amp / speakers later.
I'm going to verify my amp works before starting. Then, after the new headunit install if it still works re-foam all my ML speakers.

Appreciate the input. (Especially if the Metra harness worked for you!)
