Tool a long lunch to drive cars at the local Toyota dealer with my kid that's graduating. His sister got a 1958 Land Cruiser and he was leaning 4Runner when out of the blue this clown drove and now wants a ****ing Camry because they get 50 mpg.

What kid thinks that way? Anyway. I called him a loser and will hopefully peer pressure him back into the ways of his gas guzzling father.

One side is done using a backing plate eliminator spacer and TRE shim from Valley Hybrids.

It could be worse, at least he’s not asking for a Cybertruck!

A lot of trails around here have been closed. And a lot of places have been posted for no hunting so my need for 4WD is a lot less. 50 mpg is twice what I ever got and three times what I'm getting now.

Don't quit. Nobody likes a quitter.

That's why I've got my Duramax: 26 mpg. It's about as fun to drive as a golf cart. But it's a good highway cruiser.

My son's IROC gets 14 city/24 highway unless I cane it. Not bad for a 305/5 speed- at least twice the fun of a Camry, so overall it's 50-mpg-equivalent I'd say. It's also a 1990, so it's carbon footprint is now ancient history. Run that by your boy.

Good morning.

8274 Synthetic is in place.

Also, the mirror was "floppy" so I pulled the panel and found the spring had fallen off.
IMG_6212.webp

Keep in mind if you ever do this you have to put a lock nut on it otherwise the nut will back off.
IMG_6211.webp

He also wanted the window cranks relocated because it was falling right on his knee when the window was down
IMG_6214.webp

These doors are perfect. All new parts. Super clean.
IMG_6213.webp
While I had the panel off I added a couple of sheets of Noico
IMG_6216.webp

Cowboy wants in my lap while I type so she just climbed on my back

Took off to Auto Zone for supplies and calipers.
IMG_6219.webp

Got the rest of the eliminator kit installed. Terrain Tamer pads.

New Toyota rubber lines front and back.

Random.....

Got the step back from powder. This is non OEM that they add in Saudi for the school bus entrance. Takes the place of the bumperettes but it's way more usable than the smaller OEM one. Also hard to use the pintle and the step with the OEM step. Too crowded

New CR brake booster. Disc/drum Aisin master. Properly spaced. Bled.

Powdered air cleaner back in place.

Need to do a little wiring and go test the brakes.

Nothing much exciting to photograph. I spent the last part of my day wiring up the Harrops. These Australian Harrops via @orangefj45 habe a MUCH simpler wiring harness versus the Eaton version I've used before.

Jason set me up with a 80 series locker switch and a nice aluminum bracket to mount the switch.

It's ready to test tomorrow.

That rear rubber brake line looks a bit stressed in the pic.
It's not. But it's also at a spot it will likely never be unless it's on the rack.

The owner gave me a page and 1/2 of punch list items that I started on after lunch.
But first I added the winch line

IMG_6239.webp

The person that did the headliner and moronically folded it up under the lip of the fiberglass top. I had to cut it out then get the damn glue off. Took me about an hour.
IMG_6236.webp

Shifter boot was loose. Knob missing
IMG_6240.webp

Passenger door handle clocked like he wanted. Tightened the wing window. Added lock nut. Added Noico
IMG_6241.webp

The glove box would not stay shut. Had to grind out the little bracket to move it forward a scooch
IMG_6242.webp

There were no straps to hold the seat up. Fixed.
IMG_6243.webp
Pocket door installed.
IMG_6244.webp

Rear handle was off. Installed. Pin installed
IMG_6245.webp

Down to just a few more items then I'll deep clean it and add some wax.

Oh and I tested the lockers on the rack. All systems go.

Narrowing the punch list.

Cleaned the headliner. The installers did a good job not left it dirty as hell. Fixed.

Added wires to make both interior lights work.

Cleaned the inside up.

Pulled the steering column out because it's got a weird loose spot. First time I've ever messed with a two piece column.

Whatever on all that. I'll figure it out.

Took it out for a drive and the left front caliper is not working so I had to bring it back in and take it off.

One step forward.....

Edit. I also had a diff stud that was stripped and was leaking because it would not tighten up good enough. I had to weld a nut to the stud and back it out and put one back in. Hope that fixes it.
