Edit, I see you mention 76, but was this a USA item or overseas?

The one that I really like is the '69 & earlier with the octane adjuster and the little brass oiler cap. This one is like a '75 to '78 I think. It was in a cardboard box in a milk crate for years and I forget exactly were it came from.

Thank you, so many “get this” items I’ve never heard of to go source…my stock retard dizzy will have to go away one of these days.

Notice any difference in how the engine runs?
Not really. I just took it on a nice drive into town, about 10 miles one way, lots of uphills and downhills shady curvy road with speeds up to an indicated 50 mph.
I don't do freeways, 4.88 diffs. New set-up seems to maybe be slightly better at going from 3500 to 3800 RPM but maybe not as good at holding RPM on a long uphill. Requires more testing. So I drove into town, got some gas, got some stuff at the hardware store and the beer store. Usual LandCruiser duties.

I don't have a tach, but I could rig up my shop tach for a test drive.

@pb4ugo " vacuum canister hose" do you mean the brake booster? That is the only thing on this truck connected to vacuum aside from the distributor.
Does anyone know if the Pantonics electronic points kit still uses vacuum advance?

I cleaned up the two rear tub mounting bolts and surrounding sheet metal down in the holes. Also, rust treated them. Tomorrow I will scuff and paint them the body color. If you need new rubber hole plugs in oem, Toyota still has them in stock. Part Number: 90950-01882. I ordered some dash hole plugs too. Keep her factory as much as I can.

I have most of my grandfathers craftsman mechanics tools, treasures.

Today’s craftsman? Single use.

The Pertronix ignitor is just the electrical bit of your dizzy, just replaces your points. Whatever advance mechanisms are on your dizzy stay the same.
So, yes.
 
did you have to use any parts from your old dash pad, or this just a direct install on the FJ40 medal?
No other parts needed on my 3/70 FJ40. Had to drill and tap one of the original 5mm x .8 holes in the dash after one original screw snapped. My old 40 has mostly never been apart and rust got it.

Fit good. Had to pull lower portion down to get the 5 screws started. It flexes enough to allow this.

Seems really tough. Wish it had no logo, but maker explains this on his website.
 
Pertronix finally came in. they were back-ordered for a month or two, so I installed an Ignitor II in a '76ish small cap 19100-61010 vacuum advance dizzy that has the octane adjuster. I love the octane adjuster. Pulled out the Big Cap dizzy and swapped them.

Highly recommend keeping a spare pertronix sensor in the glove box... I've had 2 fail (one in my '76 40 and one in my Ferguson 35 utility tractor). But I definitely noticed both engines ran much better when I switched the engines over from the points to the pertronix. I also switched the dizzy from the original vacuum retard to vacuum advance, which seemed to helped with power under load/acceleration...
