A wheel spacer is the easiest solution. I've got a couple beat up ones that would be onthe way to becoming beer cans it it wasn't for using them as spare tire spacers.
Cheap 1" spacers off Amazon work great.

What kind of paint did you go with?Started this project over 5 years ago… had to dig out the house caulking that PO used and replace with self leveling sealer

Spraying woulda been better but the foam roller did pretty good……. I haven’t had the top on for quite a while so I’m looking forward to putting it back together - hopefully I’ll remember what goes where!
