Drove it to get the kids ice cream at a local produce/dairy stand. Still mine for a bit longer so may as well drive it. About 500 miles on it since I finished the restoration and no problems to report. View attachment 2775942
So that’s what my 40 looked like in 1970.

Retrieved roof, bezel and visor from painter. Installed weatherstripping. Loosely fitted roof with visor to begin alignment. Still have to figure out how I want to attach the visor to the roof. I ordered some stainless M8 button head hex drive screws that are 16mm. But I'm not sure if they will work. Plan is to get several of the screws attaching the roof to the side panels then mark the position of the visor. Remove the top and secure the visor to the roof then re-install.

Cleaned up and brightened my instrument cluster
Used some aluminum foil tape (idea from @GA Architect), cleaned up the glass and changed the LEDs
The photo makes it look brighter than it really is.

If I had to do it again I might not apply the tape fully around the left side of the cluster as the reflection is bright for the passenger.

Green Bean, that garage door opener setup has got me worried about that new top!!! Doesn't look too stable.😬

Pulled the 40 out of the garage to make room to work on the hardtop. Then quickly decided it was just too nice out to do cruiser work and went for a drive. Threw on the long bikini top and put a few miles on the odometer. Summer ain't over yet. Had lunch at my favorite spot too. Space #40 of course! Exactly where I took this other picture a couple years ago. ✌

Well it’s official! The only wording that says Toyota on it for now. Installed the bib but didn’t realize the holes drilled on the bib next to the grill. Don’t know how and the hell I missed it during the years. Still have to paint my hood and will have the holes in the bib filled back in with metal and repainted.

The more I use the chain hoists at work, the more I want one in my home. Im not sure I’d use it that much, but they are so handy when you do.
Chain hoists? We don't need no stinking chain hoists!

I call it the Ziggurat step hoist method - worked great:

Well - I surpassed the 5,000 mile mark driving around the West in the 40, feeding it as much non-ethanol 91 as I can. Have around 1k miles left before home.

Original engine? If so it ought to be happy with 87 octane, which may contain less ethanol or maybe none?
