Drove to our place outside of Las Vegas from the 2018 Pig Party at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. It was great meeting some fellow MUD members, talking Land Cruisers, and enjoying the outdoors.
The goal on this trip to Nevada was to pull the transmission/transfer case (ironically from a '78 FJ55) out of my '71 FJ40 and get it ready to send to its new home in California. Just got in from the garage, was wrapping up the work just about the time the temperature peaked at a warm 105*. All I have to do is slide it out from under the FJ40 and figure out a way to secure it to my '85 FJ60 rolling chassis, which is also going to a new home in California.
The '71 is getting a very low mileage H41 from an '84 HJ47, mated to a drum parking brake split transfer case from an '85 BJ45. It should pretty much be a direct bolt-in, with the transmission/transfer case hanging off the mid-'70s 4-speed bellhousing. The things I noticed that might need some tweaking are the round hole in the skid plate (it might need to be modified depending on the location of the H41's drain plug), the transmission hump (it might need to be modified to match the transmission and transfer case shifter locations), and the hangers for the speedometer and parking brake cables. I'll be starting that project as soon as I get my newly refurbished '86 FJ60 running well. I need to get it ready for the 2018 Solid Axle Summit in Ouray, Colorado, in just a little over a month from now.
