I have seen ARB RTTs that are electric that go for $5k many others can be had for sub $2k. Base price for a GFC is $3-4k. Is GFC the Gucci of RTTs?
Not quite. I think the Gucci of RTT's is the from Redtail Expedition. I will say that the Redtail RTT is most definitely premium materials (full carbon fiber shell and billet aluminum hinges) and design with true hardshell design (rigid CF sides and solid windows) and has Heat/Air, integrated interior and exterior lighting and power and you can get into it through the sunroof of the vehicle (and from an exterior ladder). But in any case, it's definitely the top end of the price scale for tents that I have seen. It's pretty freakin nice, but the $25K pricetag definitely puts it out of range for most customers.

I don't know that I've heard of a dumber thing than a $25k tent.
Seems like a great place to drink PBRs and scroll ih8mud.com

Starting my power steering system overhaul. I got the PS gear moved to my new pump and reattached it to the block. Took a measurement and got the gear within about .02mm of the old. It actually went on most of the way without any more tapping down. Waiting on low pressure hoses and I'll button it up. Reservoir screen was pretty gunky which may have been causing my whine but I like the idea of an OEM pump on it vs the reman unit it came with.

Well, all buttoned back up and installed but the engine whine is still there. The power steering pump gear looked a little nicked in a couple of places but I know that almost always causes a "tick" and not a "whine." I'm going to remove the pump from the block and run the engine a bit. If it disappears, I'll order up a new pump gear. If it doesn't, I'll likely start a separate post about the whine. Truck runs and shifts great like any 80 I've ever driven. Just a little whiny! I'm not sure what else could be causing it. As stated previously, whine is still there with the belts removed so I figured it was power steering related since the PS pump runs off the crank and the flow in my reservoir was not correct (truck steered well though). Taking the belts off eliminates AC compressor, water pump, idler pulley and alternator. I was really hoping it was one of those.

Haha, I know. They do market it as a "camper" however. ;)
I'm still tossing out a tarp and my 25 year old Marmot 2-man, maybe its a "don't knock it until you've tried it" but I struggle with the whole RTT idea. I see lots of coin up front, weight up high, you have to break it down to drive anywhere, and you get to lose a couple of precious MPG's pushing a bigger brick down the road.

A buddy of mine who's working on your side of the pond just postet a pic of a 13$ pricetag for a dozen eggs, so what's 25k for a quality tent? :flush::doh:
I guess I could charge anything I wanted for eggs but doesn't mean that's the normal price.
I am here to stop the fake news. RTTs should not be $25K and Land Cruisers should be had for $5K all day! 😁

were the old ones trashed? I'm going to get seats like yours, so if those panels matched....
One door card was completely trashed from water damage by the previous owner not knowing where the leak was coming from (door handle). The others were ok but were starting to break around the clips and trying to fix one door card wasn't really feasible.

They don't match perfectly but I like the contrasting greys.

Well. having had a several differnt RTTs myself, I can say I'm a fan. There are definitely pros to having one, but there are some cons, but that's the case with every mod we make to our trucks. But as of yet I haven't paid more than $2k for a tent, actually not even close to that but have had a few that had that price tag.

How do you like the Ironman bumper and winch? I've been eyeing those for mine for a while. Your setup looks great!

I live on the stretch of US20 with the highest deer and elk collisions in the state of Oregon so a bumper upgrade is more for that reason than anything else.

Very nice kit. I have installed three Ironman bumpers now. Two on 100s, one on the 80. The integrated fog lights, led blinkers & wiring harness are all nice. If you find the right time, they sometimes bundle a winch & bumper for the price of the bumper.

Pics or it didnt happen…

In all seriousness, congrats on getting it rebuilt and running again. Frankly I dont blame you for wanting to drive it awhile… been there, done that. (although a transfer case rebuild is a two day job for most of us shade tree mechanics and probably a 1-day job at most for those that do it for a living)

Thanks, and you're probably right on the timeframe, but you know how it is with a shop. They have to order the parts, then they just get to it when they are waiting on parts for something else they're working on.

Anyone have the Rocky Road sliders on their 80? Any fitment issues when installing?
I have them. They came off of another 80 so we didn’t have fitment issues but I’ve seen a video with them being tricky to install without the necessary additional mods to some of the mounting holes on the legs and vertical brackets.

YO!!!!

Keep us posted on that!
For the sake of science I just unclipped and re-clipped one of the pins three times with the reinforcement and so far so good. I don't have a reason to pull the panel off completely on the next while so that's probably all the testing it will get before I forget about posting back up here.

I also spent some time scrubbing red clay off my tires. Once red clay sticks to the rubber, it's really hard to get off.

You have no idea of what a relief it was to get her to start, ton of weight off my shoulders.

I had a boat that I didn't start for 4 years during and after the pandemic. I know exactly how you feel. Congrats!!!
