Heck, if they are willing to take it up to Greg's (unless it is their Puyallup location) a little further up the road is TORFAB (LC specialist) and maybe they could could squeeze in a buyers inspection.
A picture from a bit further away would be nice to get an orientation of the photo you posted. On that side of the motor and if it is higher up there are really only two culprits (distributor o-ring or valve cover). Would concur about cleaning...
I went through Kurt at @cruiseroutfit (Cruiser Outfitters) for my kit when I did my axle. You will just give them your vehicle info and they will set you up. Seeing the condition of the hub I would do it when you could afford to have the truck...
Whatever you do, don't download the Toyota FSM for free in the resources section, and don't read the chapter that gives detailed step by step instructions on distributor installation and timing adjustments starting on page IG-21.
IIRC the 100 series came with the A343F transmission and it is very different than the A442F and can be identified externally.

Hope this answers your question.
Hoping someone chimes in and can help with repairing your unit as the Toyota part is NLA. I did find a replacement at O'Reilly but it is $299...ouch. If interested, the part is Ultrapower ETS53.
I did a quick search and didn't find any corroborating info for a code 17. A code 71 is fairly common. I did find the above info on a post from a very knowledgeable member and I would try it to see if the code is a hard code or transitory.

When reading the code there will be a blink and a short delay if the numbers are not consecutive. By the limited knowledge of your situation, I would suggest you pull the code two times and watch for the delay.
Knowing the symptoms you are...
I have to concur with the other comments, your undercarriage is really clean and to boot you are IL (Dang).
I think a lot of people delete the ABS when doing the higher lifts. I have not done a tall lift but IIWY Look at the effected areas and...
Like said above, it is sellable but what you need to come to terms with is what is it worth vs what you want for it. Being a one owner you have history with it and seeing as you have had it over 27 years you are biased toward it.
I personally...
At home is what I consider convenient, I am not stranded anywhere nor do I need to deal with the issue immediately as the 80 is not my only vehicle. The humor was not lost on me though :)
As @jonheld said, you are best to go back to stock and work from there. IMO the current setup is just asking for a fire as it bypasses Toyota designed safety measures. Here is a picture of the part that should be there.
I always keep an extra in...
I got the axle kit from Kurt @cruiseroutfit but I went with Centric rotors and EBC pads (IIRC I got the 100 series).
If you don't have access to a spindle nut socket, make sure to have that added to your order. Most parts stores won't carry it...
I have two solar panels that I am not using, if you would like them please pm me and we can work out a place and time to meet up. Currently do not know the specs but can look in the Am and see if I see any markings.
**UPDATE: The panels have been claimed, will post update if it falls through.
Solar Panels (2ea) - Bought a roof rack and there are two solar panels installed that I do not plan on taking advantage of. If you have a need for them please pm me...
