Trailered a load of silt fencing to storage. At this point the trailer was 2/3 unloaded. Pulling a full load was noticeable.

Decided to fully dive into this turbo install and jumped off a cliff at the "while you're in there" step. 😅

I'll be bringing the head and block to a local machine shop at the end of the week and will continue to gather parts in the meantime.

I originally bought a donor engine to mock everything up and then discovered that it was needing a rebuild as well. I figured I would blow them both apart for fun. 😂

I've gotta ask... why not just do a swap? seems like a similar level of work at this point

What type of swap are you talking? LS? Cummins?

I was originally going to swap the donor engine into my rig (I had a stuck intake valve on #4 - I eventually found out what it was after tearing the motor down) but decided to do a full refresh of the stock 4.5L and slap a turbo on it.

We thought we were being smart…

Turns out there are still occasions to learn.
When you part-time your 80Series Land Cruiser you got some decisions to make. One of those decisions is whether or not to keep running ABS. I’d venture a guess that most delete the ABS.
This customer decided to keep ABS working. This means that the ABS reluctor ring becomes pointless on the birf because it obviously will only rotate when it’s locked. So previous shop installed Mark’s adapter kit which moves the sensor out of the knuckle and into a little bracket mounted on the back of the knuckle. Ok no problem. Then you add this funky external reluctor ring to the backside of the hub since it’s rotating regardless of locked or not. In my head any mud makes this thing potentially useless but who knows.

Anyway, the PROBLEM with the design is you can no longer use the OEM hub gasket/seal because the bracket for the ABS sensor is in the way. Ok, this is where we figured we would be smart and just notch the gasket for their little aftermarket bracket. Denied. Turns out the reluctor ring wants that space. You need to use Mark’s seal replacement. Now I could have asked more than two people if they had them (which they didn’t) but I also didn’t want to wait days/weeks for replacements. So nothing the mill can’t take care of. Cut off the lip and trimmed to match the face and viola, new seal.

Of course if someone in the US has these let me know, I’ll grab a few sets for myself and for this customer in the future.
