Gave the interior a good deep clean and then took it to the quarter car wash for an exterior spray down.

Attached a rubber cover over the positive battery cable where it is fixed to the starter.

The inside of my fuel door was particularly sooty, so it felt great to clean that up. Simple Green worked it’s magic and a soft brush and garden hose took care of the rest.

I have headlights that suck a lot less!

Diode Dynamics SL1’s in the low beams (9006)

Had to modify the retainer rings on the back of the headlights (file down the three humps about half way)

No blinding other drivers 👌
Diode Dynamics makes a good product. I put in Phillips bulbs from RockAuto and they improved the light output but I remain unsatisfied. I'm pretty convinced that the reflector has a thin coating of grime on it after all these years. I don't want to spring for a full Depo conversion so this might be my next step.

I was going to change the oil. Until 3 parts stores and 5 Wal marts didn't have the oil.

So it's on order and will be here Friday.

Winch finally arrived in the mail (rated recovery points didn't though!) so I went about installing it in my TJM T15 bullbar. This would have been so much easier as a 2 man job but alas I had myself and a 38degC garage to sweat in.

Decided to replace all the bolts with 10.9 grade; PO had used 8.8. In any case they were rusty and I had no idea what their life was like. There was more bolts on the front end of the chassis rails than I was expecting and I'm not sure if PO has added extras? Was 3 M12x1.25 bottom, 2 M12x1.25 top, 1 M12x1.75 (not 100% but course thread) and 2 M10x1.25 on the outer sides. There's so many bolts that they all interfere if they are too long.

While I was in there I figured out that I'm missing a stock bash plate and as a result PO has bent the power steering paperclip. Looks like I'm adding a Wits End cooler upgrade to my order!

Winch works nicely with the wireless remote but I'm unsure what the current draw is... I'm thinking I might upgrade the alternator to a 100 series 140A or something... more to buy.

1.75 is more fine than than 1.25

If you can snag these when they do a 15% coupon, it’s a good deal.

I really want to do a projector retrofit with depos, but they seem impossible to find for reasonable money these days… so i figure i’ll run the SL1’s for a while.

If you run these you do need to trim the retaining ring a bit, but it’s easy and will only take you a few minutes

I have just completed switching out my '96 80 DS door with a used '94 DS door. I hade wrecked the previous door when I rolled it on it's side in Borrego. There are two wiring connectors that travel to the DS interior. The larger one matched both doors. Oddly enough the smaller wiring connector for the '94 door is not the same as the '96 door. If you look at the picture, the female connector on the right is bigger than the male connector from the ' 94 door. I still have the old connector, but I cut the cabling in an effort to remove the door quicker.

The door is now installed and the large connector must be working, because the mirror controls are working. What the the second connector for and what ideas do you have for a fix? Is it merely that in in '96 they separated each "yellow" and in the '94, they were combined?

The later vehicle uses a different power window master switch. That may be the difference.

Added a dash ornament! ;) A little industrial outdoor Velcro on the wheels holds it tight to the dash mat and is barely noticeable.

Also repainted the wiper arms. One turned out well (pictured). The other looks like :poop: up close (user error, rushing the paint job), so at some point I'll sand and repaint that one. But at least it's protected and won't continue to rust.

I woke up to -10F and a snowstorm that really didn't deliver to the optimistic forecast. Still though, the truck looked cool with a scant few inches of snow on it when I went out to clear my driveway. Because I'm an idiot, I failed to notice the extension cord for my grid heater was still plugged in, so I got it wound around the axle of my snowblower, and thankfully it just severed instead of ripping anything out of my truck.

Thankfully, nobody was home to witness my moment of genius.
