Went up to the Big Bear area with a few rigs. Most roads were completely closed so we ended up taking the 3N16 until we reached a pack of Range Rovers that were stuck and left and made passing a little to close for comfort. They had left a note with a phone number on the window. After speaking with them I found out that they had been stuck since 3pm the day before and rescue finally came by the next morning at 7am to pick up the 12 adults, 3 kids and their 4 dogs. They've been watching way too many Land Rover commercials. We ended up turning around and playing a little longer in the snow.

Guess the 37s wont be going on tomorrow... The chef at the restaurant tried to put it out, said sparks were falling from under the hood. The battery was completely melted. I have no idea what happened. We were parked at the back of the restaurant, the fire department was cutting the hood open while my wife and I ate cheesecake. The manager came and asked who drove a white fj80, thought I was going to get another compliment as I do at most places... No idea the extent of damage as of now, will tow it to my shop tomorrow and check it out.

I cannot “like” this...

:crybaby:

Wait, is this after they had been recovered?? Or is this where they were stuck? Because that looks like a pretty lame place to be stuck enough to have to call for rescue. s*** I have seen main roads worse than that. lol.

That's whats so ridiculous. The way I see it is that they were stuck in the storm the day prior where you have some freezing temps, probably no recovery gear nor the knowledge to use them, combine that with a freezing wife and kids (dont forget about the pooch) and you're calling 911. You gotta understand that these are your normal Range Rover drivers that would not even know what is involved in changing a tire. More than likely they didn't even use the snow button.

The sad/funny part is that whenever I see a Range Rover it has what basically amounts to summer street tires on low profile wheels. Perfect for grocery getting in warm climates, less perfect for pretty much any off road situation unless the gravel driveway to the winery counts as "off road".

Put some grease in the burfs and power steering flush on the lx450. Pretty boring.

Sent the landcruiser to death valley with my wife on a solo trip this week while I had some time with the kids at home. It saw many miles of empty dirt/mud/snow roads with no one else around. It took good care of her getting her there and back again.

Finally got around to replacing my steering gearbox, old one wandered around more than my eyes at a strip club. Have to say the pitman arm was on there pretty good took some serious heat to get that bugger off!

AHH! Good to know. So now...what would be the most likely cause of the geyser??
I'd guess air in the system is the cause. Hard to say over the interweb though. Do you have a thread started about your issues?

I finally installed the 2.2kw starter I rebuilt. It has a much different sound when cranking than the 2.0 it replaced. I like it!

I also looked through my stockpile to try see what I’ve forgotten about over the years. Hopefully I’ll have some new entries in this thread soon.

Snow drive home, we stopped for a struggling Tahoe with 1 wheel drive in a foot of snow, Plan C is what we went with.

Plan A: pull him out with his front tow hook, he didn't have one.
Plan B: lowered the tire pressure to 25lbs. That didn't get him moving.
Plan C: I parked him out of the way in a neighborhood and drove him to Payson to get some chains.

What like everyone else where is the innovation in that.:singing:
I want/need something that has joints on both ends that were sealed, unbendable, and adjustable uppers.
Mine are doing fine with oem bushings at the axle and tried and true Johnny joints at the frame.

project 37's on 3" lift continues...
after moving the front axle forward the front bumper and front area of the inner fenders needing to be clearanced a bit to stuff the 37x13.50's at full compression.
This is after cutting the front bumper wing. It was aligned with the back edge of the flare originally, so I removed ~2" from the wing.

This shot shows the inner fender/core support area that was also contacting the tires.

First cut of inner fender.

The core support section was cut back as well although not quite as far. I'll be moving the AC condenser soon but for now it's still in the stock location.

little hard to see in this pic but this is all finished up. "Custom" rubber inner fender liner secured in place to stop the tires from thowing mud etc into the cavity of the core support or inside the inner fender.

Also added an aluminum edge to the front and back of my attic rack to keep items from sliding off.

Dang! How far did you move the axle forward?

Went to battle against 8 coils springs and 6, 26 year old shock nuts. Front passenger upper nut claimed victory in the last stand as sawz-all battery dies in final hour after taking extreme measures. She will not be rolling tomorrow 😕
