Well done, you have more determination than me... I just zip tied it... I'm not going for any purest points.

Please don't tell anybody. I won't do it again. It's really stupid what I did. Not worth it. You don't accomplish anything over the zip tie method.
I saw it as a challenge and saw a way to retain it.
All the scratches on my hands and fingers are a reminder my brain is not always on my side. Just like every time it tells me not to wear gloves, or wear flip flops when doing work on the car or splitting wood.

Thanks, appreciate it! I really wish the gas tank was mounted somewhere else at the factory. Would really open up lots of options for addressing the suspension. The guy that built my quarter panel armor makes some really cool stuff for the XJ/ZJ Jeeps. Bolt-on 3 link and double triangulated 4 link setups with integrated skid plates. What I wouldn't give for something like this!

Oh no doubt. But with the gas tank not in the way we could really get creative.

You could easily drop a fuel cell where the stock spare was, but to get big capacity then you have clearance issue. I think if you were creative you could have a custom cell made with clearance in mind that is deeper close to the axle and angles up to the rear.

Did cross my mind before. But with the setup I'm doing now it wouldn't work. I want to try and run 14" coilovers behind the axle slanted in and back to avoid having to cut the floor. I also have the big piece of DOM tube in that area for the Ruffstuff swaybar. Would need to be a much smaller fuel cell to fit in the space I have left.

This is the 4WU kit for 4runners and mini trucks. Rear Coilover Mounting

Still TBD if it will work on an 80 due to ride height like you mentioned. If this doesn't work I'll have to go through the floor which I'm not opposed to - but if I can avoid it that'd be even better.
