Time to add more new stuff

Man I got smoked today.

Smoked.

I put the clutch and pressure plate in then I added the clutch fork. New slave.

When I tighten the flywheel bolts to 14ft # the fingers are inverted toward the motor and not to the throwout bearing.

Bearing was about 3/4” from the fingers.

So that launched me into a wild afternoon of swapping out the new Aisin clutch with a low mile one.

No change.

Old slave. Old clutch and pressure plate.

Same.

This process, as you know sucks. It’s heavy. Manually turning the clutch and torquing over and over.

Finally decided it had to be the flywheel.

Sure enough it’s been machined away too much that it’s out of spec.

That little bit of difference in height made the fingers go too far forward

Jesus. Long s***ty afternoon for an hour long job normally.

Now it’s all in spec

Ugh! Glad you got it sorted at least. What a pain in the…

Man an hour job…, would be nice to have a lift/tools to pull that stuff. Takes me about 2.5 hours leisurely just to pull it.

Happy Saturday!

I took the day off yesterday to deliver a LX450 I built to Mosley Motors in Memphis. Summer Ave never disappoints

I beat feet back to take delivery of the main project I’ll do after this one and Rosie are gone. Owner is in Cali and truck was in OKC so it makes sense to ship here.

I spent about an hour driving and inspecting the 45 to send my thoughts to the owner and then dove into the H55 install.

So….just like with a FJ40, this install is tight tight tight.

First thing that had to go was the torque tube.
IMG_3223.webp

I don’t see how that goes back with the ebrake on. May have to build another crossmember to replace it.

The front of the gas tank skid had to be trimmed.
IMG_3220.webp

It’s in. There is about 5 playing cards clearance between the Tcase and the tub.
IMG_3222.webp

The only other mod is to clearance the bellhousing like this

It’s in.

Always watching….best to learn from a master

Good things. The ebrake cable and speedo cable had the extra 4” to allow for the H55

I would love to see how Toyota did the torque tube in FJ45s with the factory 5 speed and the under fuel tank. Anyone out there have one?

My buddy from Australia sent me a video of a H55 into a 2F troopy.

They did not use the rear ebrake and they dropped the driveline to clear it using a stack of washers.

Man. I hate watching YouTube videos and they are especially horrible when they don’t have electric tools and proper jacks. Brutal to watch. Especially when you learn nothing from it.

Finished the day up doing odds and ends and making a list of what’s left.

Getting there.

Ignition switch arrived. So did the reman Toyota starter. Upon attempts to crank last week the starter was not consistent to catch so I ordered another.

I went ahead and pulled the cluster to check all the OEM wires.

The brake pedal switch wires were broken off clean. Luckily Toyota still produces them.

Got it all back in and hit the key and the new starter just spins. No catch.

Lovely. Gonna rob the one off the goat and try again

Good news is the screen did not
Die when I turned the key so I think I may be moving a little bit forward at least

Working through my list.

The wiring is almost done. I’ve been looming at tucking.

I went into the AC harness and worked it back in shape. They had added a switch to turn it on that was not OEM so they had chopped and twisted but thanks to the OEM colors I was able to add a new fuse and BOOM the inside unit fan is now operative with the $$ OEM switch from Yemen.

Unfortunately I have to pull the inside unit out because I have a coolant leak in the heater lines. Can’t see it due to the AC so it’s coming out so I can continue adding coolant to tune the Sniper.

More steps forward.
