You kept saying it was silly, and geeky but man that is exactly how I would do it. I have integrated a couple of the Dakota Digital gauges into OEM FJ40 harnesses for folks, and that alone is a pain in the butt!

I would consider adding a manual switch to the under hood light so you can turn it off if you are under the hood for long periods.

Thank you for your help in getting this thing sorted out. I've used your website quite a bit as a reference during this project. Good call on the hood light as well. I found one that has a manual override which should work perfect.
