Also, this was somewhat of an ordeal… Almost a year ago, I picked up what I thought was a good deal on a 90 amp alternator for my 3FE. It sat on the shelf until about four weeks ago when, attempting to mount it, I realized the mounting ears are dimensionally different from the existing alternator. A little searching on mud revealed this was discussed before when guys tried to upgrade to a 90 amp alternator.
Apparently, only a select few trucks were originally equipped with a 90 amp alternator and the engine mount on those trucks is dimensionally different to accommodate the narrower alternator mounting ears.
Unable to return it and not to be dismayed, I dug through my pile of spare parts and found a donor engine mount/alternator bracket. About 30 minutes on my Lagun milling machine and I was able to cut enough clearance to accommodate the new alternator. Here are some photos:
