I think it will work just fine. I still need to find a T-shaped barrel pin for the cruise cable end as well as a swaged threaded nut guide for the cable sheathing to attach to the throttle body tensioning plate, but this is essentially how it will look:

Interesting and clean work around on the cruise control. Did you also scrap the FJ62 hand throttle setup? I'd planned to retain that in my swap, as a sort of poor boy cruise control.
 
Just curious wher did you get the training to do this beautiful work, so envious. Would like to have our paths cross someday where is home in N Nevada. I live in Chico, CA.

In the spirit of hopping around... Today, I made a little bracket for the 4x4 ground trigger and welded it on the transfer case lever bracket.

The Dakota Digital HDX panel has an input for a 4x4 indicator light so I figured, why not?

I didn't use the FJ62 hand throttle, but I did adapt a FJ80 hand throttle, which you can see in post #63, here: 1973 FJ40 restoration

I'll be honest, I tried to use it as a sketchy form of cruise control (just long enough to shake out a numb leg) but it wouldn't maintain highway speeds without slipping. Still a useful addition though!

We live in Reno.

No formal training. I grew up wrenching and enjoy making things more difficult than they probably need to be. The challenge of it as well as the problem solving aspect is what keeps me entertained.


...however, my wife wishes I had just taken up golf.
 
You have a special talent for making the wiring loom look very nice and the ability to bring it all together. Just curious how much time do you have with planning do you have in this project, insanely beautiful. Would like to se this in person sometime. About 2 1/2 hours away in Chico, ca

I stopped counting at about 2,500 hours.
 
I see you have the switch for the rear fan. Are you planning to run the rear heater? If so any issues tying it in with the new AC/heater?

I do have a rear heater but I'm not sure how I'll connect it at this point. I'm going to see how well the new unit heats the cab before even bother with the rear unit.
 
Slow and steady wins the race. Not sure how that expression applies here, but anyway…


Since I moved the battery tray to the rear, I had to come up with a new way to mount the radiator support on the passenger side. I had to extend the support rod about an inch and a half. I just cut and spliced a section of Rod stock to extend the support rod and think it turned out pretty well.


It sucks cutting into neatly powder coated parts, but I'll just collect everything I've had to alter and have it re-coated at some point.

Also, this was somewhat of an ordeal… Almost a year ago, I picked up what I thought was a good deal on a 90 amp alternator for my 3FE. It sat on the shelf until about four weeks ago when, attempting to mount it, I realized the mounting ears are dimensionally different from the existing alternator. A little searching on 'mud revealed this problem had been discussed before when others tried to upgrade to a 90 amp alternator.

Apparently, only a select few trucks were originally equipped with a 90 amp alternator and the engine mount on those trucks is dimensionally different to accommodate the narrower alternator mounting ears.

Unable to return it and not to be dismayed, I dug through my pile of spare parts and found a donor engine mount/alternator bracket. About 30 minutes on my Lagun milling machine and I was able to cut enough clearance to accommodate the new alternator. Here are some photos:

I'm coming close to finalizing my power distribution set up. If anybody sees a problem with this, let him speak now or forever hold his peace.

I'm also using a Flaming River battery cut-off switch that will interrupt power quickly, if need be.

Just a couple of questions. Don't know if I would mount it to top of battery. Will there be any issues with battery fumes or corrosion of terminals? If battery go bad will it require a lot of disassembly and tools to change the battery?

Thanks for the reply. In this case, I am not overly concerned about corrosion or venting as I'm using a sealed glass mat battery.
The bracket I have pictured in my mind will just get sandwiched between the battery and the factory hold-down strap so disassembly should be pretty easy if I need to remove the battery.
 
Also, one of the more frustrating puzzles relating to the air conditioner install was trying to figure out how to adapt the new servo-driven heater valve to the existing outlet pipes and firewall opening with very little space between the two. After staring at this thing for several weeks, I decided only way to accomplish it was to cut and turn it the outlet pipes. Yikes.

Luckily, the upside to collecting four 3FE engines is that I have several spare water outlet pipes to cut up. That enabled me to get the radii needed to point the outlets toward the valve.

If I don't screw it up with the TIG, I think it'll work.
