Now, my head is pretty clear again.

So, I wonder. Do any of you fuggers have a set of Bobm's rockers you'd like to part with?

Saw the recent thread about a set for sale, but I missed that boat.

And heck, while I'm asking, any of you have corners just sitting around collecting dust?

If any of you do, let me know.

And, because it's been a while...

:flipoff2:

My summer got all thrown off by family stuff, but I haven't stopped thinking about the Pig.

My first instinct was to go for a big ol' 6bt. But the suspension on Zeke wouldn't handle it... the 2F already pushes it pretty good.... front leafs are worn out and just about flat.

A tuned TDI will produce lots of torque and plenty of horsepower for my intended uses. One of those motors mated to an H55 and new split t-case ought to be a very smooth combination, even if the H55 is a little "notchy".

Still need to send my spare 80 gearbox to Red Head for a rebuild.

All of this is going to have to happen in stages. Need to stick to a budget, or this will get out of hand in a hurry. Not going down that route.

Honestly if you're going to put German parts in a Japanese vehicle go with the om617 Mercedes Benz turbo diesel.
Its entirely mechanical and a bit heavier duty than the vw which requires a module to run it...

I hear you on that. I’ve read through threads here on Mud where dudes have done just that. I know that those MB engines are near bullet proof.

VW and their diesel reputation got trashed, but there are still tons of older 1.9Ls out there running strong. The ‘03 ALH (I believe that’s the correct engine code) had a service interval of 100k miles, for the timing belt (which the MB and Cummins don’t have). BUT, I’ve got the bug, man.

I’m after an ‘03 AHL. Tuned correctly, it will produce +\- 200hp with nearly 400 lb ft. of torque. That would suit the Pig very nicely, I think.

It will still be mated to a Toyota transmission and T-case.

The PO had the front leafs flattened after the SOA lift made it silly tall.

Having said that, it does ride soft which I kinda liked.
That makes good sense.

Honestly, I’m still debating on keeping the SOA. It may go back to the stock spring set up. But, I do love running 35s on Zeke.

Going to take things one step at a time… and save for this build.

Plus, I’ve already FAFO. Bought the adapter kit last night 😱

I got big-time held up by an 80 that I resto-modded… but, I’ve been slowly acquiring panels and patches for the past year and a half+

Laying things out today and organizing my thoughts on the Zeke restoration.
I know that part acquisition mode quite well!
It is a big shift to go from that to, "Okay, let's start taking this thing apart!"
Use the Force...

I got completely derailed again.

My wife's twin brother passed away down in Honduras (Roatan more specifically; and thank goodness it wasn't on the mainland... mighty dangerous over there for gringos).

A Mud bud (former 3 letter) instructed me in what to do and who to get in contact with. So, we called the Embassy and then U.S. Citizen Services who directed us on the necessary steps. We took off the morning after the news came in. A frigging whirlwind. BIL's ashes are set to be sent back to our farm tomorrow. It's been a multi-week process. But, thanks to the good people of Mud (and the help of our Embassy, Citizen Services - and the funeral home that they put us in touch with), that's still a far shorter time than it would have been had I been shooting in the dark.
Oh man, this is what you mentioned in another thread. Sorry, I am way behind in here. Life this year has been...

I am so sorry to read about this.

Your wife's twin?!? I can't imagine all the feelings that she is experiencing...

Prayers for you and your wife Brother.

Thank you, brother. 🙏 ♥️

"My budget is $5k, my budget is $5k, my budget is $5k..."

🐖 💨
The best I can do is $15k... lol.

In large part getting started has taken so long because I splash out for stuff, then have to wait to save for a bit. At this point, I've got body panels and most of what I need to jump into the body work, that's the stuff that I enjoy the most. Then, the mechanical stuff will follow. The next big purchase will be a 1.9 ALH engine. Then, I'll likely take it to a shop un in Cincy to have it rebuilt (huge German car enthusiast group due to German heritage here, and tons of goo shops to choose from). Then, during the rebuild, I'll have to decide how far I want them to modify the engine for additional power... and then... and then... and then... lol.

It's going to be a process, and I'm cool with that.

Cheers!

Here's to a blessed Sunday.
