Yeah cool. Email sent @FJ40Jim

I look forward to this old hog running as well as my FJ40 does with your voodoo.

Snort.

Starting in on a full @cruiseroutfit OME FJ55 kit for the Warthog.

Kurt has the formula figured out with a mix of 55, 60 and 70 series parts. Just recently he also began to offer a budget kit that uses a few aftermarket parts that brought the price down another $150.

I’m going with the light/medium kit as I doubt the Pig will ever be my primary Overland rig over the 60.

I’m going to go ahead and have the truck ready for install for when the kit arrives next week. I’ll have to move the rear spring hangers back so I wanna that done and make sure I don’t find any suprises.

For the record, my Pig sits on 33x10.50-15 KO2s with flat flat springs. From the center of the hub to the bottom of the fender I’m between 19.5” around all 4 corners of the truck unloaded.

The front came apart pretty good. Only busted one bolt and had to cut one ubolt.

What size tires are you looking to be running afterwards?

Same size. Just looking for a better ride. My springs were shot.

If it’s way tall I’ll start snatching leafs out of the packs

Got about 4 hours in the teardown. It went pretty good.

Only broke my electric ratchet and a couple bolts.

I’m dreading hammering/drilling out the 6 rivets to move the spring hangers.

Bad.

Grind them flat then beat them through with a punch.

I’m dying here.

Took 240 gallons of air from the chisel to get each bottom rivet out and only one 60 gallon tank for the vertical rivet I could get the blade on.

Now I have beat myself into submission for the night. I can’t get them to move.

Add another hour.

Brutal. I gave up. I started drilling the bottom rivets until my arms hurt.

Gotta be a better way to do this.

I think I’ll cut both sides of the rivets on the other side if I can get the cutter in there.

If I was there, I’d hold your punch with a pair of vise-grips and let’s you smack the $#*+ out of it with a 12 pound sledge. The bottom ones, yeah, gonna be a b——. Know anyone with a magnetic drill-press?

Yeah I got a good workout from it. I was trying to save my fresh bits for the 6 holes I’ll be drilling into the double frame. (Yuck)

A torch and a welder and I’d be done.

The hard way it is......

Got the second one off pretty easily after I had a bit of time to think this over.

So. Anyone wanting to do this FJ-55 Old Man Emu install and stumbles across this on a search.

I took these two tools and a BFH and made quick work of it.

Carbide tip on a air die grinder to grind off the 3 outside rivet heads. I took a bit out of the perch too to make sure the was no lip hanging me up.

Then in hammered on the perch from the inside of the perch out.

Once the chisel bit in the perch popped off.

Start to finish about :30

This is all the crap I had out from doing the other side.

Looks like a new chisel may be in order...got your money's worth out of that one.

One side down.

Springs arrive Monday. The rest gets here Wednesday.

I’m super happy I got a head start on this part.

I’ll likely have Lou spot weld these in a couple spots once I get the springs and shackle angle dialed in.

I’ll finish the other side tomorrow.

One other tip.

There is one hole in the frame you can use that helps you line up the other holes when you drill.

It’s easy to drill the hole in the hanger.

Bolt this up then it’s solid and won’t move for the other 2 holes you have to drill.
