ONE more try left in me. @Dallas Todd supplied me with another F155 Valve cover to rule out warpage and instead of using SOR “OEM” gasket I actually used a real “OEM” gasket that is still available through your local dealer. Shame SOR is selling garbage these days. The gasket they sell is to short and doesn’t hug the corners and leaks.

Slowly adding heater parts. Been very busy with work and a major house project but felt like I need to keep making forward progress here so here’s progress so far. I pulled the grill, headlight bezels and mirror arms when I removed the side vents. Also powdering the new open vents. We will see how they look. Not sure about my color selection. More on that later.
When I removed the heat delete plate you can see the orignal color of this truck. I believe the middle and inside where normally are white this truck was a silver and the top and bottom were a metallic light blue. I’d love to see this color on a orignal truck.

I just don't remember any fancy colors back when you could buy new. I think I still have a brochure from 1976 and it had maybe 6 color options. Metallic colors weren't one of them, maybe a different country option or am I wrong?

Different country truck so I am guessing they had different options. I’ve found this metallic blue in quite a few different spots that were for sure original paint and wouldn’t correspond with a color change in realistic terms.
@bobm that truck has been painted so no telling what the correct color it was. And the colors are different than that.

I tend to agree with you on that. I think I've seen areas with just primer that are a bluish grey color but that also wouldn't be metallic.

There are several threads here and in the 40 section with colors by year, they were all non-metallic single stage until the FJ60. That looks like the early 60 metallic blue, maybe someone was trying to “modernize” at some point? Telltale is usually inside the fuel filler and around handles like the tailgate, since none of the interior was ever body color you won’t find inside. The under hood was always white AFAIK, interesting you found there🤔. I love the color it is BTW, white was the only solid color I know of that was offered …

Once owned a solid Freeborn Red ‘76 that was clearly original. Sold it to someone in the Denver area.

This color I found is behind a heat delete plate and the factory for sure didn’t paint the truck with the plate installed because the inside of this plate is black original. I also found this color inside my tailgate. I also found it inside the front seat pedestal. From experience of playing with cars just because you saw a published factory color chart for standard options doesn’t mean that was carved in stone.
Here is one I’m sure you hadn’t seen before….posted by FJ40guru on IG just last week.
I won’t be changing colors because quite honestly the tan is way better of look in my book as much of a purist as I tend to be.
