Making some progress on this between making a living and being a dad. Crazy times we are all living in.
Got my heater parts all stripped down and hardware sent to zinc and off to powder. Hood from Mark is moving along quickly as it was in line with a super busy shop.

A few speedo bodies mixed in for a customer that was needing help so I caved and got him sorted. Look at that shine!!

Some odd cracks in the sheet metal under the hinges. Ground those out and welded back up.

Final block and prime the bottom tomorrow. Paint Friday along with cowl and hinges.

@kevos37 sold me a pretty decent valve cover. (Which by the way is killing my soul) but because the stamped steel unit has fought me and leaks I’m prepping g this to probably just go ahead and install. Hate deviating from stock but you gotta do what you gotta do. This was after I cleaned it up. Sent the vent cover to zinc along with nuts.

New heater core sourced from @ToyotaMatt installed and reused the original foam ends and a mix of SOR foam from their restoration kit. The original terminology of the color of the heater is “Pewter” but on the backside of this heater @61twpw supplied me with had an excellent match to Prismatics Powder color “Forged Charcoal”. Matte finish with a slight metallic.

Mine's black but it's a '77 (10/76). That turned out very nice.

77’ has a whole different system. Nothing is interchangeable. No switches no brackets and not even the duct from heater to blower.

I believe you, it’s just strange since the heater in my old ‘73 55 (FJ5531428 ) was black. I know you are correct for 40s, maybe something in the transition year differences. Anyway - carry on
