Can someone tell me how many leafs a stock 1971 or 1972 FJ40 has on the back springs, and how many leafs the springs on the front had please? Thank you.
I can look at my 01/72 tomorrow to verify the info attached

Is there a computer based version of microfiche’ that is accessible to regular folk that does that same thing possibly with a search function?

I did a Gemini search, Google's AI, Toyota 2f exploded diagram and it pulled up a bunch of different results, images, and links. Here are a couple of them, one I believe is the repair manual with exploded diagrams for the 2f, and another one is for the carburetor. Note, If you are looking at the repair manual on your phone, you will have to swipe from right to left to see the corresponding page. For example, page 1 you'd swipe from right to left to see page 2, And if you scroll down to page 3, you'll have to swipe from right to the left to see page 4, and so on:

Yes, depending on your definition of "regular". 😂

ToyoDIY.com

For example, here's that same diagram for the rear springs but in electronic form:

More Progress
More crap that the previous idiots that worked on it just covered over has been cut out and repaired properly. I had even taken the replacement bottom rear corners to the previous idiots, and they just mudded over the rust holes and didn't use them. The guy working on it for me now found the replacement corners in a box and now they are installed. Slowly but surely, it's being converted from Swiss cheese to being solid again, and the rear left & right sills should arrive Monday or Tuesday:

Sorry you are having to go through this process more or less twice. As soon as I saw the photo of where they mudded over the major vertical body seams it was obvious that they were clueless. Looks like you've found a much better shop this go round.

Yes, thank goodness I have. He is fantastic! And he has personally owned 12 FJ40's himself, and built many for other people. But, and as I've said before, this has BY FAR turned into THE MOST EXPENSIVE vehicle my wife or I have ever owned. SUPER hard lesson learned. And during our marriage we've only paid $4k - $6k for good used Toyota's that have served us well. This dang thing is costing me more than the first home I ever bought in East Texas when I was a young man!

I guess timing is still everything… my first Land Cruiser was $4400 brand new. My ‘78 mustard was $1200.00 in 1984 and in excellent condition.
When I graduated high school in 1970 one of the girls in our class was getting married ( she was older …almost 19) to a guy whose family was well monied. The average house in a developed area on a 1/2 acre was around $38-40K. She bragged that the house they were buying was $100,000.00
Now a days here in NJ the minimum small 1000sq ft house or condo sells for $300-475,000 and depending on location…it may be a real fixer upper or even a tear-down.

No argument about this being a crazy high priced rebuild. I feel bad for you.the guy you have doing this must be amazed at what he uncovers week by week. On the other hand… I like the work

Yep, I think he is constantly amazed with the B.S. he diacovers.

The Gift That Keeps On Giving
Out with more bad, in with more good / new. Dang it! Door sills, rear sills where the barn doors mount to, on the passenger's side where the spare tire mount attaches it was rusted and pulling away and instead of fixing it correctly with metal guess what the previous idiots did.... you guessed it! They just covered it up. And someone at one point robbed the toolbox that goes under the driver's seat (I sourced another one) and just put a flimsy piece of metal there so that will have to be cut out and corrected. Step outside and listen for a minute... If you hear a large sucking sound, that's my FJ40 sucking money out of my bank account!

Sometimes I forget how lucky we are out here when it comes to rust. My 40 was originally out of Arizona and had zero rust issues. I admire your patience. You’ll love that engine/ transmission combo and the split case was a good call. My early tcase whines like a little bit ch.

Definitely no rust buckets in AZ. My dad lives in AZ and I did from 2004 - 2008.

Yeah, I called up Advanced Adapters to order the adapter I needed and they had run out and it was going to be a little while before they had another run of them ready, so they recommended I call Rick over at BTB. I've bought parts from Rick before so I gave him a call. I have to give him all the credit, he said he could sell it to me, but that he tries to steer customers away from doing it with the original transfer case because it would whine so bad it would drive me nuts and I would not enjoy, and that I should go with a split transfer case. So I am very thankful he told me about that. 👍
