Last week I was driving to work and the voltage was very low. This is odd because for the last few months the alt had been putting out 18 volts on the freeway. One of the reasons i wanted the new alt along with increasing the amperage. I got to work and did a quick look over and saw the wire from the alt to the firewall was burny hot and the butt splice the PO put on was blackening.

Luckily the Alternator I ordered showed up on my doorstep that day. I took a work truck home and made the repairs in the parking lot the next day. I got a new wire and decided to have it go direct to the battery. I also replaced a 50 amp fuse and housing that looked nackered with a 60 amp water proof breaker.

So now I have a 200amp marine alternator and new 4awg wire (was only 10awg) with a new breaker feeding the fuse panel. I also got to field test my travel tool kit. Which showed a few deficiencies that I have rectified.

Spent most of the day doing last minute things to the Doomer. Finished the door panels and resealed the fuel pump. It would leak when sloshing. Got it all packed up and we will fuel up and get on the road in the morning. Stoked!

Good meeting you Nick - I’m sorry I didn’t have time to hang out with you and check out your rig. Hopefully next time...
Yea, mark your calendar for next year. I wont miss a pig party, fo sho.

Today I purchased a coffee on my way to work in the Doomer. Stay with me, there is some relevance to this. I set my $5+ drink in between my front seats and for some reason had completely forgot about its existence during the short drive to work. I backed into my parking spot and saw my unopened straw laying on the passenger seat. I immediately looked where I had put my treat and it wasn't there. It was laying down in the back area empty of all but ice. I had to go in the office and get a few cups of water to help the coffee complete its journey to the front drain holes and on to the asphalt.

The point is this. A console with cup holders just moved up to the top of the list of upgrades I generated for the pig.

The CFO has approved appropriations for an LSx swap. I will sneak an 80 series front suspension in that budget.

I have been doing side work every weekend and haven't been able to any little things. I am going to drop the gas tank and lizard skin insulation the outside and put heat shields on the exhaust. The ambient temp plus the exhaust was what what boiling my gas when the volume was low. I am also going to look at better ventilation. Hope the sty is doing well.

I was working on the work truck and a neighbor was walking her dog stopped to let Peyton pet him. We were talking for a bit and then she said she had to know what my license plate meant. I gave her the shpeel about iron pigs and swine flu. She said that made sense and that her husband actually had swine flu and only has 50% lung capacity. Wahwah. She wasn't bothered by it, just curious.

Oh, it's going down. I have a guy that has a low mile 5.3/4L60e and I have a side job next weekend that will pay for it.

Life happened and that money went to something else. I have plenty of revenue options right now so I am not worried.

I went on a small camping trip with 2 friends from work. One had just got his new 4Runner 3 days prior and was itching to get it dirty. We went to Monache Meadows in the Inyo Nat Forest. We camp right on the Kern river and had a good time. The trail in and around the area was fun.

We met a cool guy the camped near us. He was from Escondido and worked about a half mile from me. Small world. He had a really well done Taco.

It was a good trip but I did have some issues. I guess the ground bolt for my new alternator came loose and I think it burnt itself out. I was not getting enough volts and I had to jump everytime I wanted to start it. It was also messing with my ECU and I had to drive home with minimal electronics on. No AC in the 105* heat. The fans and the ignition was taking all the power the alt could get out. I got home ok and drove the 6 hours with out turning off the pig.

I plan on parking it for a bit so I can address the rot on the roof and the put in the rockers. I really want to upgrade my front suspension too.

This is going to get good in a hurry.

This is going to get good in a hurry.

Not too fast. I am still saving funds for the coil overs. I decided to hold on the engine swap because I feel I can do the front for less money and head ache.

I need to replace the alt still so I can get the front end weighed.

Then I get to jump in feet first and get these arms fab'd in to figure my articulation before I find out how long the coil overs will be. Then I get to figure out the panhard bar and sway bar.

The hardest part will be finding a company that makes a black shock and black spring. Hahaha.
