Just sat in a $250,000 FJ40. Is it still a Land Cruiser? (4 Viewers)

It just looks wrong!!

Built or bought, real or not, does it really matter? We are all here because we are car guys and girls and the focus here is on Land Cruisers. We all have our specific tastes and if most are like me they evolve with time. Specifically, I agree that black Icon has something "off" looking about it, but that is only because I am comparing it to an original. Nice looking truck on it's own, I think the top is what throws me.

I fall into the group that likes the comfort of better ride and addition of tasteful modifications that I can use. It is the same across most vehicles, you are either more to the purist side or you are not. I am currently building a 1984 Mercedes 380SL. All I kept from the original is the shell and I am cutting out the rear wheel wells on that. There has been some spirited conversation about if it is still a 107. One guy stated, how dare I come on his forum with a thread about destroying a 107. Truth is these guys talk a good game but if a motor or trans dies the huge percentage are headed for the scrap yard. At least LC guys generally view the same blown trans or motor as time for an upgrade.

I fall into that group who never really needed comfort and a better ride but at this age, that is my new group. .BUT, I’m drivin’ my FJ40.
Glutton for punishment 😂
Weakened and tired of 50 years of wrenching, @Jdc1 is my Hero.

Hahaha- we just need more on the road being enjoyed, doesn’t matter how they get there.

There are literally thousands of 50-year-old Land Cruisers still on the road today... I bet there will be VERY few Teslas on the road fifty years from now.

I don't think EV matters in this regard. Modern vehicles are extremely difficult to keep on the road. EV, Gasoline, or diesel

They just have too many fail points

They're fragile little snowflakes
As the roads deteriorate and the cars get lighter im glad to have a toyota landcruiser thats not going to break from all the potholes...
Had a friend years ago with a bmw325 and he couldnt hardly drive over a manhole cover without punching a hole in his oil sump.

One time I had the points arm snap off on the highway departments Dodge 318 dump truck forcing a tow to the yard. All the other times I could Gerry rig the points enough to get home or to the store. Same with a carb. Countless number of times digital crap went bad and left me stranded. Brain boxes are not cheap and in stock at every back woods parts store.

Then there is the issue of glued plastic vs. welded or bolted metal. Depends on the use.

I just watch a vid on the new Carbon Cub UL Absolutely awesome airplane IMHO. I think much lighter than the J3 I learned on and with 4 times the horsepower.

I think the prime for vehicles was mid 90's to about the mid 00's. With some exceptions.
Computers in vehicles is good. That era, they had it pretty dialed.
Manufacturing was about as good as it could be, now they can remove every ounce of waste stress testing parts in a simulation, so they've engineered everything to a cost with very little excess.
It's like old barns. They didn't build them well 100 years ago. They over built the snot out of them because they had no idea how to do load calcs on a truss. "F it, throw a 2' beam on there" That's the Landcruiser. Overbuilt with no power. It has no option but to live.

Ballistic and reliable horsepower ratings like the Hellcat or a 1500hp Bugatti wouldn't be possible without CanBus either though.

Modern 'appliances' a bracket todays cars fall into are invariably designed to breakdown & their constituent parts are disposable.... Who in their right minds buys a new Land Rover that has 64 ECU's....and oodles of plastic. l know of 1 guy with more money than sense....Give me an old truck & all the potential cross over parts to mod it as l want....

Truly an amazing airplane, but it makes a $250K Land Cruiser look cheap.

The accident rate on Carbon Cubs is atrocious. I can't imagine what the cost to insure one is. But... it doesn't cost anything to dream!

The Landcruiser logo ought to be....
