Just sat in a $250,000 FJ40. Is it still a Land Cruiser?

Actually, the real truth is I am happiest sitting in a camping chair, next to my FJ40, somewhere in North GA, next to a fire, next to a stream, grilling some steaks, after just arriving there in my FJ40 and getting ready to do nothing for two days

I had to do a double-take, I swear we have the same folding table and (by your tent) and a coleman stove... great minds! Beautiful pic man

I like my total propane camp. 2 burner Coleman stove converted to propane - will run a -25 because the fuel is preheated over the burner. Its on a folding stand I extended up a foot, for tall people. Double mantel lantern on the tree that fits on the 5 gallon tank next to the stove. Propane infra red heater/cooker that is connected to the tree. Also have a double mantel lantern on throw away cans (that I reload) for walking around camp.

I made 2x4 box to it the rear floor of the rig. I screwed my wood US Army folding Officer table to the box. There is room in the box for other stuff, especially soft stuff.

That's a nice spot! Save me a parking place and one of those steaks!

"Thats the type of people who have 250k to spend on something strictly for nostalgia."

That is a narrow view of the world. Nobody says " Built to last a lifetime " snikering and saying to themselves, " This guys gonna die inside 10 years "
It's 2025, plenty of diversity in the crowd with that kind of spending money.
Have you guys seen the autonomous 4x4 so people can enjoy the trails without having to be scared or learn anything ?

There are literally thousands of 50-year-old Land Cruisers still on the road today... I bet there will be VERY few Teslas on the road fifty years from now.

They will all be scrapped after full self driving into a tree and catching on fire. They should be called Gotya Sucker

That is my reply to the odd heep guy that wants to compare his rig with mine (in the parking lot): “Come back when your jeep is still being driven when it’s 50 years old, and we’ll talk.”

I do the same. I usually ask what's their jeep gonna look like in 50 yrs?

Funny if you think about the amount of plastic panels etc.... My 40 has a dash pad, fender flares, and a radiator overflow and some lite lenses.
Newer vehicles have a myriad of parts made from materials that just arent gonna last especially if they sit outside with no roof for 20+ years like the cruiser does.

Grundy said "no off pavement".

So, If i got in an accident on the pavement today, they wouldn't cover the 40 because I wheeled it last Saturday? I used to just get liability insurance. I figured I needed to be cover if I was at fault. I figured I built it, so I could fix it. What happens If It's the other guys at fault and his insurance company doesn't recognize the value of your Land Cruiser?

I have asked my agent many times if I’m covered off road he always replies you’re covered 🤷‍♂️

Exactly where I’m at.
I think it’s ridiculous, and it might not happen, but I felt like I had already asked too many questions.
When they said no off road I countered with how about full coverage agreed value on road and no coverage off road and they specifically stated that they have gone back and found evidence, he specifically said Facebook pictures, of people off roading and the on road claim was denied and they were immediately cancelled. Just one dude on the other end of the phones story, but he seemed to understand off road stuff.
They seem to be very uptight about it.

I asked my agent about that concerning guns, and he said yes you’re covered. I asked for more details and I was covered to the tune of $2000. I snorted at him over the phone. That’s like 2 glocks and a couple of rifles, and I don’t even really like glocks I’m a trigger snob.
I did an inventory and then took the advice from INGO and got insurance from Eastern/Gallagher for dirt cheap, great coverage and no serial numbers sent to them.
Their minimum is about what I needed for guns and optics.

All that to say, they want to keep you.
Ambiguity is their friend, and their art form.

He was a friend before he was my agent, that was 40 years ago. He's been my agent for 35 years. He doesn't need to lie to me to keep my business and he know it.
We surfed together for decades.

Also my reg is insured as a antique and I had to get it appraised it's insured for the appraised value.

I took my 10 year old grandson out with me to run a few chores and then bring him home. It was his first ride in the 40. He was asking a few questions about it that were hard to hear 😉 in the cab noise but one comment he’d made was. “ so this is made out of metal? I don’t see any plastic stuff”

In la la land...back in 95 you could've picked up the new Maclaren F1, with gull wing doors & 3 seats..driver sat in the middle.for around 500k... today with its 'sound proofing' of 24 carat gold shielding..its worth upwards of £30 Million... l'd get a kick taking it to the racetrack & then enjoy the drive back with the cruiser pulling it on a trailer..... night night l'm off to dream...:steer:

Not my cup of tea
Something about them looks off.
