I’m planning on a set of BFG All Terrains myself. I have the Mud Terrain, I hate them, 31 x 10.50 - 15

I am very happy with the Razrs in 285/75/16 on my daily and also with the Yokohama Geolandar G003 in 255/85R16 I've got on the 47.

A lot depends on how many miles a year you'll put on and how much off road.

TOYO last longer... In my case I went with BFG because my tires will age out before they'll wear out.

I went with the BFG KM3’s. Have put about 10K on them since Jan 2019. No complaints. Little road noise, easy to turn with manual steering, they tuck up nicely inside the rear wheel wells. I will definitely consider a second set in the future.

I gave up on BFG due to balancing issues. Switched to Toyo and have not had a problem since.

+ 1 on the General Grabber X3's for offroad, nice and quiet MUD tire.

I've got a mate with them and they are nice and not noisy.
I'll order these for my 100 series when I need new ones and probably for the UZJ42 too.

Right now I have the General Grabber AT2's in 285/75r16, really like those, but they do load up with mud.

I have 255/85 G003's on my FJC and man I LOVE them so far. Smooth and good mannered on road, and I was finally able to get them offroad on some light stuff. I was blown away because since I was just doing some brief trails I did not air down as I typically would...they performed incredibly. They feel a lot softer than my old Grabber AT2s, which I hated. Seem like they would be forgiving enough on a lighter FJ40. Weight for the 255s wasnt too terrible either and helped my decision to get them.

Depending on the look you are after and what you are doing with the rig will make a lot of difference. I went from BFG 33x10.5 on factory rims to BFG AT 235/85/16 on City racer wheels. It was a world of difference. Drives better, easier to steer at slow speeds, quiet, etc. For me, that was the right choice, but my rig is more of a garage queen and is always on pavement.

What @bikersmurf said.

I have run both the Toyo Open Country and the BFG KM3 MT.

The Toyos are a bulletproof tire, thick strong sidewalls, perfect for country with sharp rocks and other puncture risks - but they're heavy, and you have to air them down to single digits to get the heavy sidewalls to flex. Tread lasts forever too. Noisy LOUD on the highway.

The BFGs are a better ride, not quite as noisy, and they air down easier and have a much more flexible sidewall, at the expense of sidewall strength. I've had decent mileage out of them so far, but one sidewall is starting to show cracks when I air down.

If you want another tire to add to your list, I have a son-in-law in the tire buisness (one-off family shop) and he says good things about Yokohama Geolander tires, so I might try those next.

Another vote for the Yokohama Geolander MT G003. You will have to get 16" but the 235/85 r16 or what I have the 255/85 r16 are proving to be fantastic tires in all the snow, ice, mud, dirt, sand and daily driving pavement I do. I highly prefer them over the BFG mud terrains, not too mention they run true to size.

Really tough call if we don't know how this truck is going to be used but given you're past builds they're all too pretty to wheel ;) so I voted A/T's.

I'm running BFG KM3 M/T's in 7.5R16. I've been very happy with them so far - fairly quiet on-road and have done great offroad. My complaint is that they run really small to size, and I've heard the same of the 33x10.5's. I know ALL tires run smaller than advertised, but 7.5R16 should be about 32" tall tire, and mine are actually slightly smaller than the cooper Discoverer A/T 31x10.5R15's they replaced - The KM3's are around 30.5 inches tall.

If I had to do it again I'd probably get Yokohama Geolandar M/T's.

I’m running the Maxxis Razrs on my rig, 33x10.5

They are heavy, I lost about 3 MPG after I installed them, they suck on hardpacked snow and ice, (they’re mud terrain, not winter tires)

So far in the dirt and mud they are pretty solid.

I haven’t had to air down for anything to see how they flex.

They are actually 33” tires unlike some other brands. Not really any louder on the road than any other M/T tire.

I voted other so I could see what the tally is. No experience with any listed. I run bias plys, so that explains a lot about me. :D

These rigs came with more of a mud terrain type tire. I have the 33 KO2’s with stock steelies but hear the M/T’s mount even nicer in this size. So KM3’s next time. I think a purpose built machine deserves a purpose built tire😌

Toyo open country m/t have been the best off road tires I've owned. Super tough, super strong. Excellent on rocks.
Required very little weight for balancing, almost balanced out of the box.
A very high quality tire.
