In low range, the trans go can be a little harsh at times. Up shifting from first to second can cause the tires to “chirp” a little, but if you decrease the throttle input during the shift, the gear change is more subtle.
Ever since adjusting my kickdown cable I find the factory low range shifts quite obnoxious. I've been meaning to go down there and unplug the sensor on the tcase. If you have a CDL switch this is a good option and I'd definitely leave it unplugged if I go shift kit. If I want later shift points in low I'm manually shifting anyhow.

The trans go kit certainly causes a quicker, more abrupt shift. But this is dependent on throttle input.

In high range, the firm shifts are great for acceleration and merging with traffic. But can feel harsh at slower speeds and in stop-and-go conditions.

It took me a little while to figure out how to best manage the firmer shifts, but not long.
Downshifting didn’t seem significantly different than stock.

Overall the truck was still very driveable, and it feels like the transmission is more efficient.
the "chirp" is garbing a second gear "scratch" in hot rod, manual transmission land.
after my transmission rebuild, mine will do it in high. i was shocked and impressed the first time it happened!

The next one is being torn down this today! 1996 FZJ80. Engine rebuild, Turbo, Transgo, full exhaust, and a ton of other goodies!

The next one is being torn down this today! 1996 FZJ80. Engine rebuild, Turbo, Transgo, full exhaust, and a ton of other goodies!

Rosie was big big news at overland Expo Mtn West! The color choice was very visible in the daylight and YES once Kelly is done will be a thing of beauty 😍 very well received at the show! Many approve!
 
Can't wait to see this truck done and it really didn't take a ton of modifications on the downpipe to make it fit which is awesome! Keep going @samc2447 !
Just had to add a wedge in the downpipe to move it forward to clear the firewall support. The turbo kit itself is very nice and I would definitely recommend it to people looking to upgrade an 80.

This truck is using a Haltech 2500 elite stand alone ECU and has an H55 trans. Should get up and go nicely with the turbo.
 
I had an opportunity to drive a supercharged 80 Thursday and I wanted to share my thoughts and compare it with the turbocharged trucks that I’m familiar with.

To start off, I have a naturally aspirated 97 80. My truck is on 33” tires and 4.10 gears. It’s a solid truck, runs well and gets decent fuel mileage (for a Land Cruiser haha). So I’m using that as my baseline for comparison.

I’ve driven several turbocharged trucks recently, all of them being a “stage 1” setup, but having different exterior modifications like tires, gearing, and armor.

The Supercharged 80 I drove yesterday had 315s, front and rear steel bumpers, and 4.56 gears. It moved okay but felt fairly sluggish at lower RPM, not much faster than my 80. The midrange power was unimpressive, and the top end of the RPM range yielded a bit more power and pull compared to my NA 1FZ.
Overall, the supercharger does add some power to an 80 but I wasn’t that impressed with the power delivery.

The turbocharged trucks that I’ve driven are much more responsive throughout the RPM range. The turbo does need time to spool up, but once it does it’s much more noticeable. The mid-range to top end pull from the turbo is significantly better than the pull from the supercharger.

I’d heard mixed reviews about the supercharger on the 1FZ-FE and so I was happy to get some hands on experience with this setup. After comparing the two different forced induction setups I feel confident that the Turbo setup yields more power and performance than the supercharger.
If I were spending my money on some horsepower upgrades, I’d definitely go the turbo charged route.
 
How does you NA rig compare to the turbo rigs from a dead stop full throttle 0-60? Interested to know how much of a turbo lag is present.

It’s hard to explain the turbo lag from a dead stop, I’ve not timed it. I’d guess it’s only a couple of seconds before it begins to build boost.
0-60 will not be much of a race.
Maybe we’ll have to set up a drag race and post up the video.
