So other than cost rebuilding factory leather seat and requiring special seat such as Sheelmann seat, what is the main reason you all replacing the factory seat for? I have rebuilt of my LX 80 seat with new leather and new factory seat foam (top and bottom), and I find that it is very comfortable, huge improvement before and after. In fact it is way way better than my LX570 seat, don’t like it at all.

Cant speak for others but my wife has a lot of medical issues and comfort is key. Pain management is always going to happen but being able to mitigate it with 10 way seats and air lumbar would make it possible to drive the cruiser more and maybe explore a little with her on day trips or between hotels. Right now the passenger floor heat and the seats are the biggest hurtle

Why did I replace my OEM cloth seats?
Because they hurt my back.
The used Audi seats are way better suited to me. Adjustable lumbar, heated, larger butt pad and they are shaped like a normal human.
Some car seats and lots of chairs in general are like concave in the back. I need support or material in the lower back area. The Audi seats have that.
I can drive long hours with so much less discomfort and less soreness the following day. So worth it, for me

2012 Suburi WRX Seats with Planted brackets and some custom cut plates to make it a mostly bolt in deal...no welding required, just a bunch of drilling.

I was curious about the seats that come out of cars vs SUVs/trucks. Do the car seats naturally put you at a lower level? The one nice thing about the 80 seats is that you sit higher, almost like sitting on a dining chair. Do the car seats provide this feature also?
No. If I remember correctly most seats sit too high actually. Look for ones that sit low from there mounting pointa

Heated? Any manual with heat seats known?

The BMW seats I installed are manual and heated. Never got around to hooking up the heat though...

I'm not sure if I'd make heated seats a priority as you can install aftermarket heating element things easily into any seats and they come with decent dial switch things that go in the center console blanks. Finding the correct seats that fit your body type and the 80 would be my priority.

That's a slick setup. I like it.
I am super happy with the result.

Manual also.
Yes they are, I specifically wanted manual seats...bonus is they are significantly lighter which makes moving them around less of a chore.

There are some, but after market heating elements and factory heated seat switches solves that problem.

Any pics or info on the plates? I have WRX seats and planted brackets that have been laying around, waiting on a welder and time.
My friend @bryson and I did some cardboard engineering about 2 months ago to layout the bracket shapes and then another local mud number with a fancy plasma table translated those pieces of cardboard to nice 3/16" plate brackets. Everything then bolted together with 5/16" hardware...no welding required.

I will also note that I was able to use the factory toyota/Lexus seat belt buckle with a slight modification and a spacer....easy peasy.

I just installed the procar elite seats in my 80 with the planted brackets. I went with these after two failed attempts with other seats. One CL find and some Audi A4 seats that I couldn’t figure out how to make work. These turned out ok but they werent the plug and play I had hoped for. The brackets fit the 80 perfectly but the seats didn’t fit the brackets without some modification. After a few hours of measuring, cutting and drilling they are in and they are a big improvement over my old seats.

So you replaced the door cards with ABS?

What year and series are they from?

Absolutely! My buttocks and back will give the final answer on which seat. But if i can find some tht have it all, then so much the better.

Admittedly, I like the concept of "ventilation" very much!

I just installed 2004 PT Cruiser seats w/ arm rests. The seat rails are only ~1/2" wider than the OE seat rails. Easy enough install if you have access to a welder. $40 bucks around here in the pick n pull yards & MANY PT Cruisers to choose from.
