In the '80 series, I have seen more radiators fail than I have PHHs. I have seen more fuel pumps fail. I have seen more head gaskets fail. I have seen more alternators fail. I have seen more oil pump seals fail. I have seen more fan clutches...
I have only seen a few of them actually fail. Maybe 4. Have seen a few that were looking pretty sad and got changed out before they failed. I have worked on dozens and dozens of '80s over the years (three today) and most these days are well over...
I have nothing valuble to add. Except that i am in Argentina now on some remote propertys. Hilux are the vehicle to have down here. So many nice trucks and all i do is dream about taking one home. It doesn't hurt that the US exchange rate is...
I dont know why i cant update the thread. But this is SOLD!!!
Thanks guys. Hope it helps someone. I continue to get people asking me for it. Maybe whoever ended up with it will pass it around if they are done with it. Unless they want to keep it...
Today we also cruised around in a Hyundai Galloper. Kind of reminds me of a Isuzu Trooper. Maybe they are the same? Or just another cool south america diesel?
I'm 62 and (usually) still showing the kids how to do it right. ;) But I gotta admit, most mornings when I get up I am well aware of various injuries over the years that are still with me. :(
That said, I'm moving large tires in and out of...
I have 35s on my 80. I am only 130 pounds and getting old. it is a challange to "get it up". ;)
I open the tail gait and can lift it onto the tail gait. From there i xan stand up the tire and rotate it until the bolt holes are right. Then i...
I road around in a SW4 today in Southern Argentina. Didnt get to drive it but it was nice. Comfy and felt very solid. Does anyone know what the SW4 is based on? Obviously we cant have one in the states. But i always enjoy the trucks they have...
Thanks guys. Sounds like i should drive through it again and see how the vibe feels to me. I am a little strange about the type of people i want to live around in my community. Not to sound clique but I tend to be conservative with a heavy lean...
I would. I love Butte, my family is 4th generation Butte miners and the people there are great. Very friendly and deeply connected to Montana especially the larger rooted families. Personally, I would live more out of town there, lots of cool...
i'd rather drive to butte to shop than go to bozeman. Sam used to play music with a bunch of guys from butte and anaconda so we spent a lot of time over there. Sadly butte is becoming more civilized than it used to be but it still is better...
I have asked this before but i am back on this kick. Looking for a affordable house. Just my wife and I, no kids and dont care about schools. We reLly like Helena which I know isnt "expensive" but it ain't cheap. We looked atcrappy old Butte a...
I forgot I even made this thread, a couple years back. Since then I've kind of gone down a rabbit hole. Looking back at my younger self, I was so naive. I would have told my younger self to pick another hobby that's cheaper, like cocaine...
As this thread is back from the dead, I'll add my current opinion. I still don't care what others call it :D I've been fortunate to drive amazing Toyota's and Land Cruisers around the world through dozens of countries and have amazing...
You cant really go by what lifts say in inches for a particular size tire. It has a lot to do with weight of the truck. Try to find a truck with a similar build weight as yours and see the center hub to fender flair they ended up with.
Dont...
This was one of the reasons for the conversion. Stuff like this. Also if went to a tall lift I could avoid all the front line vib issues more easily. But mostly it was classic while i am in there thinking.
You'll be fine. Leave the hubs locked, and use it accordingly.
I'm happy i have the PT. I broke my front Ring and Pinion out snow wheeling, Unlocked the hubs, CDL off and drove her home with no issues.
I also live in Montana. I just keep it in 4wd all winter but I unlock the cdl when I need to park… because it turns better😂. I also lock/ unlock the cdl at highway speed so don’t sweat doing it around town
@rc51kid I've found that driving in snow in town and on the highway, I only need locked CDL 4WD to get moving and maintain momentum. Things that cause resistance like deep snow or an icy, steep hill, where I lose momentum unlocked, I'll just...
