OK, quick bit of work on Wipers. Installed two Relays direct to Battery rail (one on HI speed, one on LO speed), as I was only getting 11V via the loom. It has two wires (Hi, Low) as well as a constant 12V (I think) and a 'Off' 12V which triggers the 'park response (goes active when switch is in the off position). I simply piped the two 11V, Hi and Low to two seperate Relays switch side, and this switches 12.6V from the Battery to the Wiper Motors. It works great now, and can power the wipers in Dry weather (not recommended, but could test of power). The Park cct still works (its still wired to the loom circuit), but I've lost 'Int', so I guess I need some more work. At least I have good Wipers now!

Just an update on things. Not a lot going on. Rain is the enemy of 60's. unless you have brand-new well fitting window felts, you are going to get water coming into the door via the glass/rubber/felts. Thats why you have drains on the bottom of the doors. Next water issue is in the passenger footwell!! I thought this was due to poor draining in the section behind the wiper! but that section was completely rebuilt and new! so where is it coming from! Its only happening on those huge rain storms! Keeping trunk under cover permanently is the answer.

On other items, Brakes are great! Still dont trust handbrake enought to put the boat in, but some adjustment has improved it.

I'm also really happy with 12v system and the roof-racks etc.

I took the 60 to a carmeet the other day, I'll get some pics of it. However it was a normal jap/usa-muscle/brit meet, so the 60 was a bit odd, but some attention to it.

The engine is starting every time, and not really missing a beat. Might have some idle issues, but nothing that is constant. Also Air-con works well.

Finally bit the bullet and got the 3F Carb refurbed. Cost a bit, but was too much of a job to try myself, seeing I'm trying to find some issues. So the outcome is great. he found that the secondary diaphram was ripped, this meant my secondary was never even engaging. Also found that the carb empty issue likely something called 'siphoning', where an air-way get blocked, and the carb just keeps on draining through the jets, not from vacuum, more of a siphon motion. Also found Acell pump was backwards! So anyway put it on, and car had heaps more power then it used too. I'll give is some more goes over time to see if this fixed some of the main issues. I think I still have a vac-advance issue (getting some stuttering, on partial throttle, when going up fill) but I'm on the way to fixing these.

Just another update, and maybe pics.

i had a 3000km outback trip planned. About a month before I got my trusted mechanic to have a check of it and tune the engine, because I still did'nt think it was perfect.

He immediately said the Disti was faulty. It had some movement (you could wiggle it) which is bad, and he could hear misfires. He recommended electronic conversion of the toyota disti (he had dont this to plenty of other old model cars). He also recommended NOT to get a non-toyota disti. So the Disti was sent away to Victoria for another guy to do the mod.

When it came back, the 60 was perfect. Completely smooth Idle. 650rpm. The issue of misfire at 1800rpm was gone. The issue of occasional stall at idle had gone. It even felt a little pepier.

So the Trip. In short Almost Perfect.

- The Carb draining issue came back, but not only after hours of driving, and I figures a way to minimise the issue.
- Engine worked great. New electronic disti took all the mis-fire issues away. it hums along
- Steering was perfect, no wobble at all, but its a bit busy to drive. If a bump, puts the steering off, its not self-centering. Those big 33" tyres need to always be pointed straight.
- Engine Temps were perfect, never shifted, Oil also ok.
- Air-con worked, Heater Worked, and even demist worked. Its not perfect, but workable.
- Speed was ok. It can sit on 100 or 110 easily
- Getting the 100 is another issue. it takes some time.
- Overtaking is non-existent. At 90K, need to go back to 4th gear to get some speed. You can do it, just need a lot of road
- Hills are crap. (remember the 60 was fully loaded up, fuel, water, camping people etc). 60km up hills in 3rd gear
- Fuel economy also Crap. I based myself on 350-400km for a tank of fuel, but in reality filled up whenever it got bellow 1/2 if I could. On two occasions got down to 1/8th tank left, and filled up with about 72L of fuel. Fully Loaded up. Roof-Rack with Swag on room, almost acting like a sail. This was all driving as well. Anyway, thats what it is.
- Comfort. OK. Plenty of room, but took a day or so for legs to get used to the space. Going to look at a knee-bad for clutch foot though! it got a bit stiff with no room to stretch out. Wife was happy in passenger seat. BMW electric seats worked great.
- Noise. Well. All the sound-deadening is great. Cant hear road noise at all. BUT engine noise and wind noise. Downside with roof-rack is they are noisy. Its not bad, you dont need to shout, but when I got back into my volkswagon, I re-started the engine 3 times because It was so quite.
- Radio. The Sony AV1000 was flawless. Apple-Wireless connected first time-every time (I have an add-on USB wifi adapter). However, door speakers, useless. Rear-speakers, cant hear due to all gear in back. I can see why the high-roof has roof mounted rear speakers. I think I'm going to do the same, and bring them to just behind front row.
- UHF. Worked well, but I only had the stuby antenna, as the long one was packed under the fold-down sears under all the gear. The external speaker was good, but again I think these need to be mounted high. Only really line-of site, which was fine.
- 12V. The festival I went too was 5 days, and the damn carb drained itself. Starting after 5 days, needed the help of the booster, but it then started straight away. did'nt touch the 2nd battery as rear power failed due to anderson plug issue. All camping was on external Lithium battery box and solar, which worked well.

The trip was great. All camping bits worked. I lost some power to the rear, but that turned out to be an anderson plug coming loose. I cable-tied them all together now. I slept in the back of the Landcruiser. I had a single mattress, which fits when you remove the rear seat. It was 4 deg outside, but quite warm inside, only needed sheet and blanket.

This was first major test for the cruiser. I had nearly $1000 of spares (alternator, starter etc), did'nt need any of them. I now know it can be trusted. It's comfortable. It keeps up with everyone else. I know its fuel range. All good for the next adventure.

Short update: Carb Draining. With some of the previous testing, I discovered the Vac Sensor( small round thing with pipe to carb and one cable, used to detect when you take foot off pedal and trigger fuel cutoff) was faulty. Its taken a while, but finally got a new one. Some tests
- Measuring resistance (Closed Circuit) as default across the sensor.
- When you suck on the pipe, you get an open circuit. So I guess thats how you test it. (the old one failed this bit)
- Connected it up, and reset the idle-fuel-cutover bypass (not bypassed anymore)
- When the 60 is idling, if you disconnect the Fuel Cutoff, the engine dies BUT
- When the 60 was at 1000rpm+, if you disconnect it, it drops 200 rpm, but still goes. Seems that it really only works at idle
- Attempted to reproduce the surging test I did before, which I thought showed the sensor fault but could not (some combination of stuff would cause the engine to surge on/off when at 2000+ rpm, which showed the idle cutoff cycling on and off)
- Also 'shortened' the pipe to the thermo valve off the Carb (1/2 inch pipe to a metal round valve thingy that only opens when you heat it). In the vague attempt that maybe the hot vapours are not getting it hot enough to open it.

Need to go for a long drive to see if the carb drain issue is fixed

Also having lots of problems with handbrake. It works a bit, but I cant launch my boat as the combined weight slips the ebrake. I've adjusted about everything (all drum brake parts are new). Even got a new cable, as well as the $150 superior engineering handbrake leaver mod, and still does not work properly. When you look at the mechanism, you see how 'small' a movement makes it work, but also the number of parts the whole system relies on. I also dont believe the auto-adjustment is working properly (despite previously having the over-adjustment issue when I first installed new brakes). At present the handbrake works ok, but still wont hold the boat. And I want to go fishing again.

Also fighting the door cards a bit. The bottom corners are not sealing fully. trying glue options to harden the particle board. Also have found a rear door rubber is letting in water. trying a new one now. Also replaces the red-LED dash lights with yellow ones. Red looked cool for 5 secs until you realise you cant see anything.
