@SipLife visited home for the long weekend and tore into the 79 dana 60 disc brake front axle. Got a lot done but got hung up on some stubborn kingpin studs. Have to pause and regroup. Did the whole kit and kabootle of heat, tighten/loosen, heat/ penetrant, weld nut and turn with wrench and impact. No luck.

Possibly stating the obvious. If so, please let me apologize in advance.

Regarding impact ... it is obvious from the picture that the impact driver was used. Was axial impact in the mix too? What I am referring to is striking the bolt/king pin and surround to impart a shock impulses to aid the cycle of penetrating oil/heat to be more effective. Most impacts would probably be axial, so my wording followed. Obviously a brass drift (or hammer) would be needed to avoid damaging the parts.

On such large parts, I have found this to be of aid to the cycles of penetrating oil and heat.
Good luck

No apologies needed. Not sure the Milwaukee is axial. After heat cycles an brass hammer got some axial hits with penetrant in the mix. We also tapped it with an air hammer with flat tip. PO had rounded two bolts and tried to air chisel it out and left nut remnants. I was planning to use an oxy-acetylene rosebud but found out my hoses were cracked and brittle. New ones incoming

Got a second one for the old school 250 ESAB mig. Very handy in all situations. Has a 300 A rating.

Spend time in the barn organizing some areas that were not great. One was the tool box. We had been living out of a simple box. Worked for a while. Not anymore. Going to relegate it to hold impact socket stuff and persuasion tools.

Upgraded to the next level. 56” cabinet. You can add on to this one in 48” or 56” increments. This has a power charge drawer. Heavy sucker. Comes fully assembled in a box/pallet. Had to forklift it off the truck. Box comes with a wooden ramp so you can roll it down off the pallet!!! Going to use the ramp as a lecturn to place my FSMs as I work😁. I also got some new organizer trays. Magnetic base for each socket and the tray has a magnet to keep it from sliding when you open the doors. Also got some other stuff I will post later. Got a set of collapsible magnetic bolt trays as well. Easy to stick them to the side of the cart. Slowly migrating stuff over and discovering missing pieces which I now have to retool. Going to hit a pawn shop to see if I can get odd ends.

The US General stuff has come a long way! Super nice boxes if I had to do it all over again I would have gone that route over my snap-on epic box ( dont get me wrong i do love it though lol )

Have a US General Cart next to my Snap-on. Prettt similar quality between the two.

Got one hose set for a test. Interesting that they came with brass termination, not anodized! Also got quick coupler

Sorry for being late to reply. But I thought I would share the couplers I have started using. These are a Milton product that works with any 1/4” nipple on the market. They also have a double lock/unlock mechanism. You pull the first collar back to relieve pressure and then pull the second to release the coupler. They won’t accidentally de-couple when dropped. They aren’t cheap, but not very expensive either. I bought mine for $7.00.

Look more robust than plastic housing ones I got! Price is good!

A couple of years back, I picked up multiple sets of magnetic socket holders at my local NAPA on clearance. I have found them to be very handy because I have a complete selection of 3/8 and 1/2 inch sockets immediately at hand while I am working on a vehicle that is on the lift.

As I indicated, they are magnetic so I attached the metric sockets on the left post of the lift and the SAE on the right post.

This seemed like a good time to share on the chance that you find these socket holders of interest while you are enhancing your tool storage and access

Keep up the great work and sharing your progress.

I recognize that lift!!

I have been learning oxy-acetelyne from a YT channel. He uses this mask for all kinds of needs. At the barn, I have several welding helmets and full face clear eye protection masks. I have been switching masks depending on tasks. I am experimenting with this one because it has full face protection for welding, torch cutting, and grinding. The auto darkening insert goes on the flip up piece and is flipped down for welding. There is clear polycarbonate when the auto darkening insert is flipped up. One helmet for two needs. No need to switch helmets. I thought the view area would be small, but its very good.

3 needs:
you now have part of your “Bender” Halloween costume.

Its been a minute. Finding a roofer at a decent price took a while. Its going to be 15’ min tall. It willl span the entire concrete slab 60’L and 40’ W. I am also extending the awning by another 30’ which I will gravel in to park the Hitachi steel track excavator. Gravel area will also be used as a wash down area. The concrete area will be for all rubber tire/track equipment. Hate having equipment beaten on by rain and sun. Glad to get this done. It will be flat roof with a slight pitch. Will add gutters to redirect water.
