Hey Alberto, what thickness is that cage made out off ?

Impressive! Just ticking along, great workmanship.

Thanks!

That cage is sweet! I can't wait to see how it turns out. Love the platform.

I really liked it when I had it on my FZJ60 back home, hoping for same results here :)

You know, that's a good question. I don't think this cage is anywhere close to the quality that MetalTech and such would produce on a roll-over-protection here in U.S., but I would imagine that every little reinforcement to the roof structure would (hopefully) increase the chances in making it out of a roll-over. Regarding the thickness, I didn't measure it, but I don't remember it being anything special. I might think of adding some changes to make it "stronger", but I think it is a good/decent platform to start and it certainly looks nice, too

It looks really good but the wrinkles in the corners make me believe that they used some thin gauge metal :(

What was the weight of the complete cage?

you gonna add some padding in the front area ..? ( near to your and passenger head )

@joekatana can tell why that's a good idea if you have internal roll cage and you are not using helmet while wheeling .. ;)

Hey David! @Tapage

Yes, I am planning to do something like my friend Omar did on his FZJ71 (see photos below). I will get around to do so at some point o_O

And since I showed photos of Omar's previous FZJ71, will include some photos of his current 70-series.

Omar bought a new 2016 HZJ76 and he is currently driving, with my friend Iker, from Venezuela to Ushuaia (Tierra del Fuego, Argentina) and back visiting several spots in between. Last I've heard from them they were in Buenos Aires, Argentina already and visited some cool places like Iguazu Falls:

Ushuaia is regarded as the southernmost city in the world: Ushuaia - Wikipedia

Some photos of the HZJ76 during the trip:

What side is the steering wheel on down there?

How's the 70 coming back together?

Well, I started the engine on the frame a few weeks ago. It started on the 3rd attempt, with no power to glow-plugs and it was about 30F outside temperature. I am happy it started that easily. Took me a while to get the air out of the fuel system to the point that I second guessed how I had the fuel lines connected . Once I got that sorted, the engine started great.

As a side note, on the 1HZ (just like the 1FZ), the power steering pump is crank-driven, so I made sure to connect the high-pressure line from the pump to the power steering box.................BUT, I did not connect the return line HAHAHA. Once the engine started, I ended up with power steering fluid dripping from the garage ceiling . The test start was short-lived because I had to go and clean that mess up hahaha.

I want to start the engine and let it run for a few minutes and then keep moving forward and disassemble the exhaust manifold to install this:

Thanks for asking!, sometimes I feel like this thread already bored most of everybody on MUD

Also just saw the Alien Workshop banner, Photosynthesis was a game changer video!

Regarding Alien Workshop, one of my great friends used to own Alien Workshop before Rob Dyrdek bought it in 2012. They are based here in Dayton, OH. I don't skateboard much anymore, but it was a lot of fun when I did so.

Below are some photos I found from a trip I took in 1998 to the Gran Sabana. Some quick and cool information about the place can be found on Wikipedia: Gran Sabana - Wikipedia

Sounds like it is going good, any time you need to add a "TURBO" crossover pipe things are good. Is that going to be a factory set up off a 1HDT or are you just using the crossover and an aftermarket turbo? Either way high class.

That is rad you have that connection to Alien Workshop, I still try and skate when I can, but its a bit harder these days.(the ground that is)

A GREAT friend of mine, Brian @gifu, donated a CT26 Turbocharger for the 70. The Turbocharger came out of one of his vehicles and he graciously donated it to the cause. To do justice to the big savings Brian helped with, I tried to collect as many Toyota Factory parts to make it a clean install, and mimic (as much as possible) a 1HDT set-up.

Many Many Many Thanks, Brian @gifu for helping me with this.

Since I had the engine running already, I wanted to start replacing regular maintenance items and start bolting a lot of the Turbo parts I have collected over the last few months. I will try to keep the next few posts detailed, with part numbers, and organized, in hopes that it will eventually help somebody else trying to complete the same steps.

First, was to remove the Timing Belt and Water Pump to install new components.

I read a bunch on the Toyota FSM and here to tackle the job. It is a super easy task, but there are a few tricks well documented in the board already.

This thread was very helpful with some pointers:

1hz Timing Belt Change

And Louis @lshobie has some cool YouTube videos on multiple Land Cruiser related repair items. Here is the Tutorial Louis put together for the 1HZ Timing Belt and Water Pump replacement:

The video is almost 7 minutes long, and I can tell you that it took me WAY longer than 7 minutes to do all this

I followed much of the steps described on the FSM, on the IH8MUD link above, and the tips mentioned also on the YouTube video.

First is the removal of these items. A couple of photos to go along with the progress:

I know the steering dampener has seen better days, will address that later o_O

The CT26 Toyota Turbocharger is water (coolant) cooled, so I gathered the 1HDT Toyota parts that supply and return water to the CT26 Turbo.

Many of the steps I followed and the part numbers I used are described in this IH8MUD thread:

How to: 1HZ CT26 turbo install

The Water heater pipe that runs on the RIGHT side of the engine is replaced with the following part number:

778.jpg

There is a little pipe that uses two of the studs on the Water Pump that also provide cooling to the turbo, and this pipe assy goes behind the timing cover plate, so I needed to get that step added to the mix when assembling the Water Pump / Timing Belt combo:

And then finally the outlet of the engine also needs to be replaced:

Land Cruiser Parts and Consulting did the Lion share of sourcing these parts and I want to give kudos to Onur @beno for helping me with this:
