Greetings,

I wanted to initiate a thread about my 1979 BJ40 and hopefully tell the story and provide some details about the plans and modifications that I have done to the vehicle.

This is not intented (by any means) to be a full restore/refurbrish of the truck, but rather fix some issues and enhance the capabilities of the 40. It is an on-going project and it is far from being done, but I thought this was as good time as any to start the thread.

Hopefully, this will serve at least three purposes:

1.- To remember and document what I have done to the truck
2.- To help somebody with the same or similar questions
3.- To thank and acknowledge a lot of people from this forum who have helped me tremendously

So let the story begin...

I bought the BJ40 from another MUD member almost two years ago but didn't start working on the 40 right away. I have been trying to finish my 1985 CND BJ70 (which is not yet done by the way) prior to comence work on the 40.

Some information about the ongoing work on the BJ70 can be found at:

https://forum.ih8mud.com/70-series-tech/608045-1985-bj70-story-modifications.html

A little information about the BJ40:

- Originally equipped with a blown B (3.0L) Diesel Engine
- H41 4-spd manual transmission
- Full Floating Rear Axle
- Drum brakes in the four corners
- No Power Steering
- No A/C or Heat
- 12V electrical system

Not perfect, but overall, it is all there. Photos from the truck before I got it.

Looking forward to your build Alberto, you did phenomenal work on the 70 and I am sure the 40 will be the same

Thanks, JP!!!

I have done a few things to the drivetrain already...now need to play catch-up with the photos and write-up.

Thanks for the note!

Vent windows front and rear....
Sounds like mine. Where does it originally came from? Latin America?

sure you could ...
talent is a learned procedure and tools is just an expense ... sell the 75 and you could set up a shop quite nicely.

looking forward to this Alberto!

Thanks, Roma!

Will try to follow your lead and do the best I can to come close to the quality of your projects :)

....Oh My! This should indeed be good.

:)

Thanks, Onur!

Hopefully I will not dissapoint anybody here :hmm:

Yeah, you're right.

There's not near enough rust.

Thanks, Chris.

There is quite a bit of rust on the truck, however, it looks decent on the photos.

This was one of those that when you see it you know you have to have it

look forward to following this as well.

Thanks, Nigel!

Hey Rudi,

Correct. I believe the truck came from Costa Rica or El Salvador (not 100% sure). I will have to look at the import papers. The previous owner imported it to New Jersey and I bought it already in the U.S.

oh ****, here we go again ...

Will "borrow" a bunch of ideas from your builds!

I could do what you are doing if I had time, talent & tools.

Well on second thought I probably couldn't even do it then. :D

I know you could do it, Charles!!!
