The gear oil in the transfer case got contaminated with metal grinding off of something else. The oil became a grinding paste- and there you go.

Hey. There’s a thread in 60 series. A friend in Ontario - Cruisin Canuck- is rebuilding his case. Georg got his experience in and made an interesting comment about mixing up gear sets.

I would tear that case all the way down and run it through the wash, and then inspect everything really well. Obviously, a hardened piece of steel got into the bearing to cause that type of damage. You should see distinct, wear marks, or breakage...

That's why I always buy something without numbers. That way I change it without worrying of keeping it 'stock'

So happy they still make these, but fuuck that front end is so mismatched and horrible. Just can't get over that. Maybe an after market hood without the bulge could fix it....maybe.... And different bumper.

I have an amazing degreaser I got an local auto parts store. Bare metal is so much nicer to work on. Spray on, soak for 10 min, rinse. Ubolt flip kit is a convenient work around for sure. Better end result.
