What do you mean "jigsaw to the rear wheel wells?
I am not following...
He means cutting the wheel wells with a jigsaw to make some room...I could not bring myself to do that if it had not already been done for me.

Certainly not the best. To stiff and not long enough. Shackle angles were horrible.

x2. Bought some ages ago for my 45 with the same, crappy, results.

Add another one to the Holley carb list. If you are staying carbureted, just use a Q-jet.

Muncie M22 tranny, not my mod as it came with it when purchased. Great for street racing while SUA and on 31's, not so much for anything else after going SOA and 35's.

Having, and keeping, a rubber cargo mat in the back. Bad bad bad idea.

Not mine but the PO's, Damn Ford bucket seats are way too tall and look dorkish
also I'm sure I will have some serious trouble from the custom roll bar when I try to fit doors and a top on my rig.
I haven't done anthing too stupid yet ;p as it has been too wet and cold to work on it.
The best mod IMO would be a nice equiped heated shop to work on it in :grinpimp:

My Dad and I put a Man-A-Fre Rochester two barrel and a Delco Distributer on the family's 69 FJ55 in the mid 80's. No one that we new of ( snail mail and long distance landline was the World Wide Web) was offering any kind of upgrade for either and the stock stuff was just too hard to come by. We never did get that Rochester jetted right but we did get free T-Shirts for visiting the store while on a family vacation.

SOR headers. What a waste of $500. I was 20 and thought headers would be good to increase power. All it increased was exhaust leaks. Like that extra 1hp was really going to make a difference. Worst of all I can't find my stock exhaust manifold. Weber carb would be the next worst mod. Stock single barrel was perfect. Bought a weber 38/38 always ran like s***. Switched to a the 32/36 and it is way better but still not as good as the old 1 barrel.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away... 19 year old me wanted to get rid of the silly vacuum retard distributor for more horsepowers...so he dropped in an HEI distributor from a chevy straight six, no not the DUI one, it was from a wrecker. Got a few days driving out of it before the engine quit leaving him on the side of the road. After towing it home and finding no spark he threw the whole Napa ignition parts catalog at the HEI unit trying to get it running again. After autopsying the HEI distributor when none of his mastercard troubleshooting worked, he found the rotor had been pulled in to the stator coil from the distributor gear not being fully engaged with the cam. Luckily it was driving the oil pump the whole time and didn't eat the cam gear. Did I mention he also didn`t have a proper ported vacuum hook up for the vac advance as well? So he effectively had no vacuum advance, negating the purpose of the "upgrade" in the first place.. He threw the old vacuum retard toyota distributor back in and drove it like that for a few more years after spending enough on the HEI paperweight to pay for a non USA Toyota distributor...19 year old me learned that any mod done without research is a bad mod and Mastercard troubleshooting doesn't usually work. Too bad 28 year old me did too much research on mods and wanted to do them all at once . 28 year old me learned it's unwise to take a running, driving land cruiser completely apart to "restore and upgrade" it then spend a large chunk on money on parts that he did't need yet. Now 36 year old me is trying to put it back together on a shoestring budget with no time ...damn POs

I have a Weber, Rancho springs in the rear, Rancho add-a-leafs in the front, and Rancho 5000 shocks. I didn't know they were my worst mods until after reading this thread… Should I add Delco Distributor to the list? Oh, and the headers, too. Can't remember if they are SOR or Manafre. I never had a problem with the headers as far as leaks. And I'm too dumb to know if the Weber or Delco Dizzy were good or bad and the truck always ran like crap so who's to say? I loved it anyway, cursing it the whole time. The ride, well, that is certainly a nightmare so reading all this stuff about Rancho makes me feel better and a light bulb finally goes on over my head: illumination! I added all that stuff so long ago I don't have to feel bad about wasted money but…my internal organs have never been the same.
