@reevesci Been following your posts and fab work. I would guess you are over at Rock Springs but more like Green River. I spend winters in AZ and come back up to Bear lake around the end of May. Then head south in October. Didn't really need to escape the cold this year. Only 90 miles away to Green River. We should kill off a few beers this summer.

@reevesci - never seen that!! But my Step-Grandfather (Winfred Sandy Boulter) was born on the Big Sandy River in 1897 and always said the Wind River Range was windy!! I always wanted to make the trip - I've been a lotta places, but never up that way.

Finally fixed 4WD and the vacuum switch system. Seeing the green light illuminate on dash is cause for celebration.

Culprit in my case was father time. Truck sat for years before I bought it, and I rebuilt the transfer case fork and tested big diaphragm before install.

The hard line going from vacuum intake to the switch ion firewall has a loop. Moisture must build here internally and line was completely clogged. Pb blaster and a torch finally let piano wire break through. Per my vacuum pump, you only need about 10lbs of vacuum to shift. Assume normal it takes 2-3 seconds before light comes on.

Great info there. I never thought about a vac hard line being clogged .

Wound guitar strings are great for cleaning out brake and fuel lines. I'm a big fan of acoustic "E" strings. Very slinky and make the bends easily. Looks like an "A" string would work for smaller stuff.

Cured Death Wobble by removing beauty rings from hubs

@mdsims - finally took the plunge and followed your advise to remove the "beauty ring" casing around my hubs.

Experienced a death wobble at 30+ mph ever since installing my new to me steelies and used bfg a/t's. Been rotating tires etc without luck.

Realized that it probably isn't normal to need a bfg to get the front wheels on and off... So decided to finally remove the rusty casings that were deformed inverse the many years. They actually looked to be fused to the hub, so was pretty nervous to take a chisel and BFH to it.

@GLTHFJ60 and @JohnVee gave me some reassurance to start using my BFH like it was intended.

Very happy with the end result, but my goodness those things are a breeding ground for rust... It was a muddy/greasy/rusty mess in there.

Your #3 looks like a chrome beauty ring, completely rusted out. I'd take those off. They trap all sorts of junk that can stay wet months after a rain, leading to big rust problems. Based on how yours look, it's not going to be easy to remove them. Once off, wire wheel the hub (and lockout bodies if needed) and paint.

Ordered new OME rear shocks and they came in. Went to put them on and broke DS shock mount. Damit!!
After researching mud to find best fix. Will have to weld on new stud this week.
Patience....is the best thing I have learned while working on my cruiser. A thirty minute job turns into a week... haha.

I love this, it should be my motto. Mines been of the road for a week chasing down a wiring fault, I found the fault in less then an hour, but then couldnt let the rats nest the previous owner(s) left me so its nearly re-wired.

^^ Exactly. My "plug and play" IPF headlight install turned into a 2 week re-wire of the entire charging system, complete with new alternator and chasing down some bad grounds...Headlights still aren't installed. Now all the bezel screws are seized, been dousing in penetrating oil but no luck so far...

Some day I'm going to go out to the garage to put air in a tire and wind up in the middle of a frame-off...

Finished the SOA on the rear. Now it rides more level and doesn't appear like I'm crawling a constant hill going down the road. I may try to shorten my shackles in the rear to get a little drop.

Changed two tie-ends and cleaned out the central arm. Can't do anything else; got the wrong parts for the damper and remaining tie ends. Trucks on the blocks and looking miserable

Got new old wheels and oem sized tires. Was having 2nd thoughts until I saw them on and am so glad I went back to oem stance

Put it on blocks in the garage.

Sold the white wagon wheels and tires to make way for the OEM steelies to go back on. Currently shopping for tires.

I just found some nice 235-75r 15 Goodyear wrangler mud and snow with a real nice tread and profile for an oem look for $75 each at discount tire Walmart also can order them

I just got my inspection results

2 headlights,
1 brakelight,
1 rusty spot on the drivers door,
1 unijoint
1 swivel hub
1 exhaust mount
new battery holder piece thingi
and I need to put seat covers on to hide the state of the seats.

overall, its not that bad. But Im not happy.
