That is not the only big gauge wire I found in there. There is another 2 AWG or so wire in there (right side of picture haven't ran it down to see what it goes to yet).

My buddy liked to Sh** his pants when he saw this. Just kept shaking his head looking at the floor. It was hard for him as I was laughing so hard I couldn't carry on a sentence (didn't help his situation).

This same truck, the PO had cut out a big notch in the dash so he could mount a shotgun in there like the sheriff and Highway Patrol have!!!

However, it's a pretty good ole 40 just needs some work.

I thought about Rudi when I saw this and took a picture. I'm sure he will appreciate the Kansan wiring intellect that was carried on here.

I don't know Rick... I think yours was actually cleaner!

I used to see some some very creative patches, when I lived on an Ozark farm, back in the early sixties... Before the advent of duct tape helped solve a lot of moonshiner problems.

This one is the most creative and dumbest I've seen!

I wonder if Rudi ( @bj40green ) would approved...

Ok you got me there - I had a lot of twist/tape connections and wire nuts but no hose clamps.

Had about 10 minutes before I had to take off. There's a 2 AWG wire to the amp meter. Found 3 different connections utilizing hose clamps for wire connectors with what appears to be a spark plug wiring boot as an insulator. I've done some pretty.... let's just call retarded trail fixes to get me back to camp but nothing like this for a permanent wiring.

Just thought everyone would enjoy!!

Hey maybe this came from the same guy that did the restoration in
"How NOT to restore the FJ40" https://forum.ih8mud.com/posts/9522255/ ????

Yup @AU FJ40 that is probably going to be your best bet. I am just plugging holes with stuff that went there originally. Knobs, indicators, soft parts and such.

Started stripping down the donor cruiser..

@reevesci I think winter lasted about four days here. Low 80s today.... Rattlesnakes will be active shortly, if it doesn't cool down again. I'm hoping to make a trip that includes the Big Sandy River area and Boulter Lake in late April, early May - is it usually thawed by that time?

Surface should be.. But, we got 6" of snow in May last year. Never know what will happen here... HA!

Hi all,

Started work on a new spare tire carrier, to replace the lame home-made one (which has worked just fine) I have been using the last ~10 years.

@pngunme , @fjgoober, @RWBeringer4x4 ,
I don't know what you guys are fuzzing about. That hose clamp is up to specs for NEN1010 and IP65 regulations.

How about this craftsmanship which I found in my Cruiser when I bought it???
DSC06051a.webp

Extension wires for the Ammeter with green/yellow (ground in house installations) wire and a melted screw connector.

DSC06064a.webp

Gas soldered (with a cigarette lighter?) wires.

Spaghetti on the drivers side inner fender on my BJ40.

@pngunme you should be good in early May. As @reevesci said, anything happens that time of year. I do my annual week long trip into the wind river range in June. I go in up at the north end. Usually the hiking trails are fairly clear of snow by then at all but the highest altitudes. There has been no snow this year. Over at Bear lake Utah/Idaho where my house is there is typically about 3-4 feet on my property. This year the grass was showing signs of greening and guys were golfing at the local course on Feb 8.

@Bear Lake Cruiser, our grass never fully went dormant.. about 40-50% green through the winter... CRAZY!
