I just got my inspection results :(

2 headlights,
1 brakelight,
1 rusty spot on the drivers door,
1 unijoint
1 swivel hub
1 exhaust mount
new battery holder piece thingi
and I need to put seat covers on to hide the state of the seats.

overall, its not that bad. But Im not happy.
That's not too bad, could be worse!

Wow that's absurd if they regulate the state of your seat covers/seats... Yikes.

I guess we don't get all the fun models here but glad we can enjoy them as they age without too much interference...

So glad I never throw anything away. Swapped the pretzel bumper for a nic aged one I had. Gave her a nicer smile. Changed oil and took her first real test drive

Yesterday i adjusted the the valves on my '69 F155. I've adjusted valves on motorcycles before, but never on a large engine. I read the FAQ and watched a video of someone adjusting the valves with the engine running. It looked awful.

Doing it with the engine stopped was so much more enjoyable.

Finally got my oil drain plug unseized with some persuasion from the Orange hammer, some vice grips, and some pb. I've been attempting to get that thing out on and off for a while so that I could finally do the first oil change.

I quickly got a new plug and gasket ordered from mr T, went to Wally World and Napa and got to work. Supplies included 2 gallons of shell rotella, a blue bottle of STP oil treatment(zddp), a Napa gold 1515 oil filter, new oil drain plug and oil plug gasket

The oil that came out was black as I expected... I've had the truck since August and it sat before I bought it for quite a while, and it took me some time to get it running, and I've been running marvel mystery oil for a few months.... So think black oil wasn't surprising

The STP oil treatment came out like jello, really thick... Quite strange...

Finally hitting this milestone is a stress relief to know my tractor engine is well protected for a while.

Dang that oil drains super fast out of the huge drain hole!!! Got black oil all over the place.

Not sure you can see the consistency but it is pretty thick and dark.

The hole in those small drain pans isn't as big as the hole in the Cruiser's pan - your not the only one to find out the hard way . I put a Fumoto valve on mine and use a great big electric roaster insert pan to drain it into . Can dump the whole load in less than a minute . Use a center punch to knock two holes in the oil filter , make sure it's sharp and don't hit it hard enough to break off the oil filter head from the block - this will drain that filter while you're waiting for the oil to finish dripping out of the engine .

Moved the green 40 out of the shop, pulled in the red one, stripped it to the frame...

Welcome back to the dark (40) side! Been reading your 60 thread. Brilliant work to straddle that tech/vendor line without getting tossed into the Small Business threads! And brilliant metal work. Did I read you right - you are giving up building custom bumpers?

VV, I decided to keep going with the bumpers. Added the 40 fronts recently and soon the the 40 rears.. I dropped the 80 products, but keeping the 40, 60, and hopefully soon 55 and 70 bumpers.

Thanks for the kind words. Haven't decided if I'm taking these 40s to the chopshop and build a extended cab truck (originally the plan) or go back with just a resto mod.. I'll get the frame prepped and the body panels sanded etc... then decide.

Only a few things I'm certain of on the 40 project. The color scheme, power plant and it will have Trail-Tailor custom armor on it... HA!

Just a thought (don't ask me how I know) but is it possible that the gasket from the old filter was still on the engine, and now there are two gaskets on there? You shouldn't have to tighten it that much.

@MrMoMo - thanks for the good advice. I'm going to fire her up and see if she's still leaky. If so I'll open her up and check for a double gasket. It was super tough to get off, so just assumed it had rusted up like every other threaded piece on the truck!

Decided to delete my previous photos, don't need any trouble....

But the net/net of my previous post was that I did an oil change last night and this morning I checked for leaks and all clear. Warmed her up for fifteen mins and discovered a huge puddle under her. Later discovered turning filter by 2/3rds past hand tight just wasn't enough...

At least you found out in the driveway.... I found out on my way to work about 5km from home, no kitty litter and must have been an awfully long trail down the road. Thankfully the 3B has an oil pressure shut down, so after removing the second gasket and re-filling the oil I was only late for work....

Oh, and I would check regardless. Mine didn't leak right away.

@MrMoMo- You are a wise wise man! I owe you yet another beer! Very impressive... All that work due to a silly little rubber gasket.

Wise ass yes, not sure that I am a wise man though - I've just made a lot of mistakes!

Glad you were able to catch it before repeating it the way I found it!

Lets see...started putting the doors together, they look sharp! Replaced the brake switch and I now have brake lights. Just an FYI...if you're going from a small 1970 version to a larger 4 wire 1971+ version, you have to take out all the steering bracketing to get it to fit. Once in, its fine. Pain in the butt! Also ordered up a few things, so hopefully it will warm up so I can get some more work in.

This week and last:

Replaced the clutch master cylinder- I've replaced the slave and hose in the last few months, but I would slowly lose the clutch over a week. I could bleed the system and get another week, but that was getting tiresome (however, I'm very good at it now! ) There were no leaks, so apparently the master was gulping air somewhere.

Replaced points, cap, rotor. Annoyed enough at doing this so soon (only six months without much driving) that I ordered a Pertronix system.

Replaced dead seatbelt reactor on the passenger side with a used one from here in mud - functional rig again!

Got so annoyed at too many random tools in my on-board kit that I did a major cull and can now close my tool bag again!

I made an upper antenna support out of stuff in my junk drawer. I used a cheap mag-light clip and a rubber bushing with a piece of inter tube as a backer. Painted it up and VIOLA!!!

The interesting find during the Front axle reseal was the right front Steering Knuckle Bearing Cap. This is the cap at the bottom of the knuckle that the 4 bolts come through and the steering knuckle bearing rides on.

We found a hairline crack in the cap - although it doesnt appear to be a direct load bearing surface the crack was enough to warrant replacing it. Possibly with larger tires, age, and 4 wheeling over the years, it took its toll.

Made some plastic washers to protect the paint on my spare wheel carrier:
