Wondering who and where Redline is and what Proffit's did bad or wrong?

LBM:D

Redline Land Cruisers is out of Colorado Springs. They do some pretty adventurous builds. I could tell after about 10 seconds of talking to them that they were the way to go. www.redlinelandcruisers.com - Check out the Iron Moose 55.

I keep finding stuff from my Proffitt's build that isn't right. I haven't been able to get it all fixed because I've been overseas most of the last 2 years. HORRIBLE wiring. Melted looms, no grounds, or crappy grounds. My engine ground was just dangling down the firewall. My Orion hasn't worked right since I've had it. Just smashed full of old parts. The fuel system isn't hooked up correctly. Their standard Proffitt's jerry can swingout doesn't accept jerry cans in any sort of normal, human proportion. I could go on, but I won't. Most exciting and most disappointing moment ever. At least it looks good sitting at the shop.

Sorry fellas. Back at it. Carry on.

Axle adaptor washer

It is icy in oklahoma this weekend so I got around to making an adaptor to connect the 1967 drive shaft to a 1978 front axle with disc brakes. Was going to buy a new flange but what better way to waste a cold ice day then making something. Started out as a 5" piece of angle iron.

Here it is, have to Wait until it is a little warmer outside to see If it fits.

Phosphoric acid. You can buy it as metal prep at Lowe's, Home Depot, and other places under various names.

Strip, wire wheel and wire wheel some more! What are people using to treat surface rust before they prime?

Thanks everyone...did lots of reading last night and will be hitting up Lowe's today.

So was there a proffits in Colorado and Utah - I saw where Utah went out of business?

LBM

they consolidated both in UT before they closed it

There is a big thread here (maybe in chat now) that details the whole demise, attempt at resurrection and final death nail.

OK - I was just curious - I'd seen the Utah web site - thought they looked pretty good - then was surprised they closed. Sounded like they were just not profitable and were shut down. Too bad they had so many issues with $ and with getting the job done right.

No, this stuff came in a 5 lb bag. I bought it in like '00 when I did my frame off restoration. I have not been able to find it for a while, not that I've been looking that hard, but it seams that they don't make it anymore.

I used Eastwoods Metal Wash. Good stuff!

Prevents flash rust giving you time to work on thinks before priming.

I was able to locate and buy back my original top. The cap is toast, but the sides and hatch seem to be in good shape. I actually kind of like the period decals.

You might just need a new gutter. The top doesn't look so bad.

This sounds like a potentially interesting story; is it?

Fuel tank install near completion. Ran new wires for the fuel tank sender, welded in the filler recess I fabbed up to replace the plastic one. New fuel lines to the tank.
