Rebuilt my Edelbrock carb. I followed the excellent advice from this Tech article by Brian Swearingen.

http://www.ih8mud.com/tech/carter.php

I ordered the off-road needles and seats #1465 as well as the rebuild kit #1477. I did make two changes from the advice that Brian suggests. The first was to set the floats at 7/16" rather than the 5/16" to 3/8" he suggests. Edelbrocks factory specs say 7/16" now instead of 9/32", so much less fuel in the bowls. The other change was very minor, Brian suggests splitting a vacuum line down the center and placing both halves in the passage that connects the float chambers to control fuel slosh. Possibly Edelbrock has enlarged the passage a bit as I found that the half sections were a bit loose. Or my vacuum hose is slightly smaller than what Brian used. I cut two 1" sections out at 2/3, their not going anywhere now!

Those mods should help the off-camber situations.

She fired right up once the fuel hit the bowl. Dirty Sal's never run better, very responsive! I'm stoked! :bounce::bounce::bounce:

It's funny at how they admire your FJ40, they look at the Toyota signage on the radiator grill, then they look at you and say, nice jeep!:bang:

Even salespeople at the Toyota dealer have done that to me. One walked all around it (past the stock "Land Cruiser" badges on both sides) and says to me "I didn't know Toyota made a jeep!".

I'm with lostmarbles though; to 99% of people "jeep" is just a generic word for any two-door 4WD truck that the top comes off, just as the brand "Xerox" has become synonymous with any copy or copier. They mean it as a compliment.

JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP

No point in getting angry.

They're just using the word "Jeep" to describe what type of vehicle they're looking at and they either don't know or couldn't care less that the word they're using is a brandname from a different manufacturer.

We get the same thing here with the word "Landrover" - but mainly only from the older generation because there's nowhere near as many landrovers on the roads here now as there used to be.

(Jeeps have never been very common here although their numbers are building any may even equal or exceed Landrovers number now.)

There's a lot more important things happening in this world to get upset about.

I wouldn't blink an eyelid if someone called my BJ40 a Jeep. I'd just be pleased that they loved it enough to stop and want to talk about it.

Certainly was not intending to project that I am angry. More fun with people than anything. Here in NM I see numerous stickers that say "You wouldn't understand - Its a Jeep Thing".

Even salespeople at the Toyota dealer have done that to me.

the greeter at the door:

"what type of vehicle is that ?"

:bang:

Hey, so i have had a busy week. i was told of a few cruisers sitting in a shed, one was a petrol the other a diesel and the diesel hadnt been used for about 3 years. so i took some tools and very quickly got them both running and driving and then bought them. A 76 FJ45 (2F, Lukey Headers) for working on the farm, and a 12/80 HJ47 ute, with a 2H diesel which i will strip out for parts/sell. They both have pretty nasty rust, and probably wont see the roads again, but good for me.
I also put HID spotlights from ebay on my troopy, along with an LED worklight on the back and new 7 inch crystal lights. And i put my 73 FJ45 project up for sale. Oh and i also started rebuilding disc brake front end for my troopy. Its been a good week.

I installed the IPF headlight harness after putting in Roundeyes. Headlight harness is simple install and made a big improvement in my headlights at least in my vehicle. My only regret would be not taking a picture of my headlights prior to installing Roundeyes and taking a picture of Roundeyes prior to installing headlight harness or headlight harness and regular headlights.

I made a little progess on the Beast. Its slow as I am doing it all by myself. No gripes but sometimes I do wish there were some Cruiserheads nearby. But.................got the grill painted, Bezel cleaned up/painted, the bib done, headlight buckets cleaned up and painted, did the second wire thingy with the marker lights so they will be wired in with the turn signals, put the new turn signals on, got the Hella headlights in and a few other things I know I am forgetting.

My spare tire hinge was seized, freed that up. Pulling and rebuilding master cylinder. Good day.

Neatname your truck looks almost exactly like mine, even rusting in all the same places! :-D

Put the hard top and doors back on for the winter. My MC Designs Quik Hinges made this job simpler and quicker than last year.
