This was on my '40 when I got it, it was cracked and someone mudded it over. The mud that is on it is from the late 1970s. I was going to fix it when I painted it recently but managed to get a semi-new one. This one has the early-style square...

So, I got a bicycle cable with a small round lead end, drilled the backside of the barrel clamp to fit it...

Check out ebay #265389700271, I've been selling these for umpteen years now, much upgraded over the factory cables.

I am not exactly sure but I may have bought the one I was using from a Downey catalog back in the mid-1980s. I might buy a purpose-built one, I am about to do another round of work on it. Thanks for the link!

I'm planning on installing a third cable stop, one behind a long end for the trail, as a spare for the trail, and I'll have just enough cable to make the original length if it breaks. Also, electrical shrinkwrap to cover the sharp end...

I don't know if your pedal is exactly the same as my '72, but when my throttle cable broke at the pedal I replaced it with a bicycle brake cable. Works perfect.

$8 at the local motorcycle shop. I tighten up the slot on the pedal a bit and it fits perfectly. The other end was already a graft so no big deal there. Thanks all!

Many moons ago and a much dumber version of me converted my 76 fj40 to a SBC. That involved changing the throttle linkage to a cable and finally that cable has broken at the pedal end. The kit I got back in the day was a complete petal with a...

I stand corrected, it probably is 857, not 854. the break was in '80. But Blue FJ40 is Still Best FJ40! Lots of info in the FAQ. FJ40 paint FAQ

Check the tag located on the passenger side firewall. It should be the first three numbers on the bottom row. The color of your truck looks like 857 to me.

She's a beauty! Paint code wouldn't happen to be 854? Cause in my humble yet meaningless opinion there is only one perfect fj40 color.
