While I don’t intend to respray the truck, I am planning to start cutting some of the rust spots out, starting with the rocker panels. In the meantime (while I’m waiting for my color-matched paint to ship), I decided to detail one of the hood hinges.

Mark- where did you get the color matched paint?

Jessie, I actually don’t remember the name of the place. It wasn’t well researched. I just googled 1969 dune beige paint and pulled the trigger on a small amount of paint to do some touch ups.
I’ll definitely post a review (and name) once it gets here and I have a chance to try it out.

Here's a question, my local paint shop was going to make me up some 'Beige' when he checked the paint code on the vin it came up as white..although it said Beige on the vin plate... l take you have to 'guess' the nearest match...he didn't have my paint colour on his charts..

Dune Beige or Coronado- the late 60s early 70s paint ID is definitely difficult, especially with the years of oxidation and abuse.

I took my fuel door to a Tasco store in Austin. He did an alright match and put it in rattle cans.
Any half not crappy auto paint store should be able to match. Was about $25 a can.

Edit: He matched the inside of the door…

I SHOULD take the time to do this.
@Land Cruiser Junky did this for me 30 years ago with the lwb, and it worked out well. But that store closed down several years ago. He was their last customer, and they gave him one of their signs. He sent me a pic, but I can’t find it at the moment.

Several Napa stores do it too?

Prolly. IIRC, I hit the order button at like 4AM on a Sunday. Proto-typical 21st century impulse buy.😛

Soapy water bath, acid bath, wire wheel, acid bath, brake cleaner, and waiting for a bit before primer. Amazing how many bugs these things can hold. Thinking of going with tan color.

I have read dozens of posts like this over the decades, where even the promised color matches offered by some of the cruiser vendors as ‘exact’ matches are not. I have a can of supposedly 416 dune beige that @Biscuit left with me about 15 years that he bought from one of them. I used it to change the color of my hi lift jack handle from royal blue to something more neutral. It doesn’t look anything like the factory dune beige paint on Mike’s 74, or my ‘69. But it’s good enough for a jack handle.

Who made the front calipers? Isn't all Dot3 and DOT4 compatible (same but higher BP than 3). Dot 5 is silicon based and doesn't mix with the other 2.
Not sure on the calipers. The lid says DOT 3 only after I checked.
